As I stated in the MLB thread, bittersweet day. First Melky gets banned for being an idiot and a cheater, and then Felix Hernandez throws a perfect game. Luckily we don't hear about too many players being banned anymore, goes to show you that drug testing works.

He was unlucky. There are several other performance enhancing drugs being used currently. Once again, the good guys are way behind the bad guys.

It's early in the morning, so I think maybe I'm just reading this incorrectly.

Are you suggesting he was unlucky to get caught? Even if the good guys are way behind the bad guys (I do not disagree) he wasn't unlucky. He was/is stupid and brings shame the sport.

    Bingo.

He knew what he was taking. He admitted what he was taking.

He let his team down and damaged his reputation. He put in question the outstanding year he was having.

    There's no upside here.

... and no, I do not think Mark McGwire "got away with it". I know in my heart that his 1998 performance will ultimately bring shame to the Cardinals (and more, as he continues as hitting coach today)

... and no, I do not think Lance Armstrong "got away with it". His personal battle with cancer is inspiring. His performances in the TdF, I think will not stand the test of time or a properly harsh light of investigation.

The penalties should get stiffer, IMHO.

Wow indeed! Not surrounded by the sharpest knives in the block I guess.... WTF were they thinking?

But, I don't believe it's BALCO 2.0 - A random, isolated incident hopefully. IIRC, 3 guys have been caught so far this year? That's not great, but is a hell of a lot better than it used to be!

Care to expand? Do you somehow know this to be the case, or just your WAG? [Not arguing BTW, just genuinely interested.]

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Haha.

Melky opened up a whole new can of worms with that website, I wouldn't be surprised at all if a 50 game suspension now turns into 162. But, his biggest punishment is going to be in his checking account. He was on his way to a multi year contract somewhere around $60-$80 million, now he'll be lucky to get a 2 year $15,000,000 deal, but I doubt any team will give him a second year, he has to prove himself first.

Agreed. Going that far to attempt to cover steroid use up should result in a heavy suspension.

I think trying to fabricate evidence about his KNOWINGLY taking the banned substance is going to be really, really, REALLY frowned upon by MLB. He's insulted them and, if this was found out later, would have destroyed the credibility of the league on this issue.

    Merky: You're a double idiot.

Skull and Bones and the Illuminati are behind steroids in baseball. They're watching us!!! Steroids were invented at Area 51. I've said too much already. Move along, nothing to see here :D

Juan Nunez, one of Cabrera's associates, has been banned from all team clubhouses.

Also an interesting read. We're probably not going to see Cabrera in a Giants uniform again. But the questions remain...what will happen to him? Who's going to give him a second chance?

And another article I just read.
