Sheesh, looked on Newegg, as my DOCSIS3 cable modem does not play well with my ancient Linksys wrt54gl router. Too many choices. Anybody care to recommend a Gigabit router for a home network / gaming computer set up? Thank you!
lots of decent options. How much are you looking to spend? 60$ vs $160 gives very different answers...
Linksys e4200 is a solid unit. I have it. Works great and is not ugly. There is a new ASUS with hardware NAT that gets raves reviews. RT-N56U. Get either of those two. For a gamer I'd lean towards the ASUS.
Thanks for the replies, I can spend $200.00 if I need too, I need to take advantage of the extra fast Comcast speed I am paying dearly for every month!
In that case... If you have wireless devices (which I'm almost certain you do), definitely a dual band N wireless router at the minimum. Like evolved said, the Linksys e3200 or e4200 are solid units. Amazon link to the Linksys e4200 http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Linksys-E4200-Performance-Simultaneous-Wireless-N/dp/B004K1EZDS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308185469&sr=8-1 I do keep hearing about the ASUS routers these days and how great they are as well. Link to the RT-N56u product page: http://usa.asus.com/Networks/WiFi_Networking/RTN56U/ Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/Processor-Hardware-Internal-Antennas-RT-N56U/dp/B0049YQVHE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308185414&sr=8-1 4.5 stars w/ 71 reviews of a router is quite rare these days. Better reviews and slightly cheaper than either of the Linksys offerings... Unfortunately, from what little research I've done recently, NETGEAR seems to have lost it's way a bit, as their newer hardware just doesn't handle everything that it used to be able to do.
