"A movie relating the story of Gilles Villeneuve is in the making. Toronto based Capri Films will be producing the movie. Jacques Villeneuve will be in Montreal on Wednesday and will announce the details at his restaurant Newtown"

    It's about time!!!

Who do you think should play Gilles, Enzo, Arnoux, etc.?

My question is who will play the evil Didier Pironi?

While I'd love for this to be a great project, I think I'll reserve my enthusiasm for the time being. Filmdom doesn't exactly have a stellar history when it comes to racing movies.

_IF_ this movie is done correctly, I will be very excited to see it. Gilles was a little before my time, but I have grown to be a fan from what I've been able to read, and the limited footage I've managed to see.

I would lovea proper depiciton of his life and times. The fact that Jacques is involved certainly helps.

Touble with something like this is, what do you do for race footage? Does Bernie own the rights to this as well, or is that before he took over? If the footage is his, I can't imagine he'll release it for cheap (greedy bastard).

To crucify Mass for GV's death is totally unfair. He was rightfully exonerated on any blame. GV's fatal accident was a product of his better judgment being clouded by his desire to beat Pironi. His last lap was being attempted on qualifying tires that were well past their best and his overtaking move on Mass was 'optimistic' at best. I am a huge GV fan but the facts are that his accident was his fault. But I digress. The film seems very interesting and I look forward to seeing it when it is ready.

You're right that Mass was never officially blamed for it. Also I have to say I'm neither a Mass nor a Villeneuve fan. And I agree that Gilles was driving with some rage to snatch the pole from Pironi.

However: Mass was on a cool down lap and instead of staying where he was he switched sides on the track right in front of the oncoming Villeneuve. It was a misunderstanding, yes, but also a very boneheaded move. If you don't know what to do, just hold your position. Especially when you're doodling around the track. DC at Spa in the rain was a similar thing. He didn't change position, but had no business dorking around on the hot line.
