Gilles Villeneuve's 308

I have seen a factory photo of GV driving a red Mondial 8 with his name on the side under the window. That would be one special Mondial.

 

Gilles owned an orangey red 308 GTB. After his death Joann Villeneuve advertised the car for sale in the Italian magazine Autosprint. I don't know who bought it or what has become of it since.

The Mondial was only on temporary loan for promotional work. I have seen pictures with Gilles and Didier Pironi driving Mondials as described in Canada for the 1981 Canadian GP, but there may have been other occasions.

The Mondial periodically pops up for sale in the greater Montreal area. Overpriced!!! The current owner is trying to milk the fact that it was once driven by GV.

The Ferrari mechanic at the time (Nicola from Luigi Sports cars) recently told me that both Gilles and Didier referred to the Mondial as a lemon. I've got a photo lurking about....

Are you sure it is an 308 GTB? Recently Best created a 1:43 scale model of a 308 GTS belonging to Gilles...

Serialnumber of this 308 anyone?

 

I have read it was a B. I think he enjoyed sideways emergengy brake slides into parking places with it too.

 

I call BS, no way a 308 parking brake could do that even if it was well adjusted!

Nice picture but I doubt that the car he drove from Monaco to Maranello would have Ontario plates.

I also heard it was a GTB as some of you mentioned.

Pic looks like in Montreal just South of where the new Forum is currently built with Place Ville Marie or Bonaventure??? in the background, parts of the old Windsor Train Station in the middle left and so forth. My humble opinion.

As an ex-Montrealer that actually looks to me like Roy Thomson Hall right behind the car (looks like a hat) and the Toronto-Dominion Centre in the background (black skyscrapers) - I think this picture was actually taken in Toronto?

Exactly where that was taken.

 

I have no doubt that Gilles Villeneuve could do it. Enzo once described him as the "high priest of destruction" due to the way he treated cars.
