I'm not sure what there is to shed light on. They're talking about race cars, not road cars, so what does road legal have to do with anything?

They are claiming they are road legal cars in the USA, clearly it's BS. No road going car in the USA can be equipped with a roll cage from the factory for road use. Sure in the UK you can register a horse to ride on the street.

Certified from the factory, have look at Porsche they have the GT3 option in euro and UK models that can come with the factory option , not legal to be offered in the USA.

Sensationalism by the writer. Also, the owner says they are the car to beat? How? During track days? How can one really know what car is the fastest when you have so many different levels of drivers.

Yes, everyone from the factory has one. So Porsche chooses not to wrap or certify it doesn't mean they can't. Show me the law that says it's not legal.

Can't you get a legal Ruf car in the USA with a roll bar?

That's not true. But if you have a factory-installed roll-cage you must crash test it and certify it which is an expensive thing to do every time you come up with a new model so companies like Porsche choose not to do it because of the relatively small number of road cars they'd sell with them installed.

So in effect it's the same thing.

Having a rollcage in one of my cars and also having the street version of the car I can well understand how they'd have a hell of a time getting it certified. Unless you're wearing a helmet and a 6-point harness that cage is most likely going to be a very serious potential point of injury in a wreck. In a really seriously designed cage egress will become a safety issue for most potential ordinary passengers as well. I just can't see how a cage that's tacked onto a street car is ever going to get approval. The design of any airbags could be compromised as well. An expensive, sophisticated one designed in from the ground up is another matter. Some cars do have an integral rollover hoop.

I think you're correct and I was wrong. I was thinking of a rollover bar/hoop like Jeeps have and some convertibles have. That's not really the same thing as a proper roll-cage.
