You know, I honestly can't think of any guy I've ever dated or even seen out somewhere wearing a scarf, but maybe it's just the climate I live in. I can't get the pics to come up on the link either.

 

Does he have a jacket he tends to wear frequently? If so, buy one that would compliment that well. I wear a scarf all the time. I don't like to have my jackets buttoned tightly around my neck so a nice scarf does a good job at keeping the warmth in. Most important is to get something that is very soft, the skin around your neck is really sensitive. Egyptian cotton, silk. Better to spend a little more and get him something he'll wear.

 

I personally think that Nova Check will never go out of style (Burberry's plaid), but that might be out of your budget. If it was a scarf being purchased for me, I would want something black, soft, and rather short.

 

I know I'm not a man, but I have one of those Burberry plaid scarves and I can and do wear it with anything. I bought it in Philadelphia and saw a ton of people there wearing them.
