When I specced my 2013 spider, I knew that I was adding fluff that had no resale value. Worse, was that I knew I could be reaching my lifetime Ferrari $ allocation. As someone who is not a 1%er (my friends tell me I am between 2-5%) and sadly NOT getting any younger or coming into any significant money anytime soon :), I still essentially did what I wanted.
I figured if this was my last new F-car (I have had 5) I was not going to worry about "saving" a few bucks (lots of bucks, really!) here and there. I could have easily taken out about 10-12K that most people would never notice. Speccing dash with upper portion black and lower part beige, replacing carpet on lower rear wall with beige leather, doing upper zone in beige leather vs standard black leather and then paying dearly for the carbon front winglets and B-pillar trim added the aforementioned $$. I viewed the racing package as "essential" so was not trying to do a stripper car. Rather, for the first time, I was not worried about the next buyer or inevitable depreciation. That yes, does affect my purchasing power for other things in the future if I decide I "have to" have another Ferrari.
Anyway, speed forward 2 1/2 years. I just finished multiple beautiful sunny, top down driving days. Every time I looked at my car - be it while garaged or when parked while out and about - I was thrilled with its appearance.
I have no idea if I will ever be interested in 488. Right now, not on my wish list. I'll get back to you after I see it, smell it, hear it, and drive it. I also have no idea what comes after that one.
What I do know, is that having specced the car as I wanted, I never look at my spider and go, "I really should have done so and so." That 10-12K extra is allowing me to not feel like I need to come up with what will likely be my car plus 100K to get what I "should have" gotten.
The point of my thread is this: to anyone on the fence about what their car should look like or what options it should have, please get what you want. This is the first time in 5 cars that I got it right. It really raises the enjoyment/satisfaction you get while driving it. Not to mention, if you are like me, the chance to save some money by not hearing the siren song of a new Ferrari as loudly as I once did!
