Fortheloveofallthatisholy... Auto emissions account for at most 15% of CO2 production. Getting rid of cars would not solve the problem. Politics.
If I'm doing my math right, a Prius driven 15,000 miles a year is worse than a 430 driven 3,000 miles per year. Therefore everyone should drive Ferrari's.
The amount of greehouse gases emited by sports cars alone pales in comparison that emitted by factories and other forms of industry/agriculture that make civilized life possible. Special interest groups go after private parties, collector car owners, high profile niche targets (since they are veiwed as wanton glutany) simply because those types of people and groups (as a whole) tend to lack the overall power and influence compared to that of global companies which exsersie power and influnce over political parties and as such state governments as a whole. Some hairbrained scientist isn't going to go publicly after BP (et al), bescause he may need/want a job from them some day. He's more than eager to put a slap on the face of a faceless group of (assumed) greedy, hedonistic, lustfull people who own flashy cars....
"What I was saying is that you have got to admire people who are conserving energy and not those wilfully using it." YES. Next time I go to the club, I'll be sure to ride my bicylce.
Yes. And pretty soon the Prius we be junked while odds are that the Ferrari will be lovingly looked after for the foreseeable future. BTW global warming is caused by the sun. 99% of CO2 is produced by the ocean. The amount caused by man is insignificant and very difficult to measure. Note: global warming has occurred LONG BEFORE the industrialization of man. New York was under ice 10,000 years ago. In fact, global cooling is a much bigger concern because crops don't grow in cool climates. If the cooling was widespread we would probably have mass starvation. I will keep driving my Ferrari and hope it helps keep the globe from getting too cool.
Climate change....hmmm....we just got dumped 10 inches of snow, and its the coldest December and the most snowfall for the month in decades. Guess i need to start my ferrari's more often to make it balance abit
This is what I don't get... everyone jumps on Ferrari's because of global warming... but Ferrari makes what, 6000 cars a year? And GM makes 13,000 a day, according to Google.
Good logic for a 13 yo....if that's true =) People pick on companies/images like Ferrari because they are mostly viewed as luxuries or indulgences....and as such not really considered neccessary for the continued well being of mankid or the planet. Wrongly of course
Thats what I read on some quiz, if anyone can confirm that would be great. Blame all the guys that have the nice cars!
This is a load of S---- all the way around, inside and out. I don't even know where to begin with this. The GOREbal warming lie/hoax aside, are we revisiting archaic philosophies where governments order its citizens how to live, what to think, who to choose in a significant other?
Before they go and critique Ferraris or other "sports cars", they need to analyze their military vehicle inventory first if they are so concerned about the welfare of the environment.
I thought that was the joke when I saw the title of the article. Then I read it. The article *is* a joke -- the twit just didn't know it. Apparently the Brits were right to worry about the "brain drain". If Ferrari wants to make a "fuel efficient" vehicle, take a page from Colin and "add lightness". A two ton, two engine Prius is the long way (wrong way) around the barn. But what fuel economy do you get in a Mini, sitting in gridlock at an average 10kph, gabbing on a cell phone, versus "a" to "b" at 50 mph in a Ferrari, just driving? Fix the @#$% roads, *then* worry about what's (not) moving on them. Governments seem to have gotten the notion that making people feel bad about having a life is the way to distract them from all the corruption and waste in government. Make accomplishments "politically incorrect" to account for the government's lack of any. The "Idiocracy" isn't genetic -- it's cultural.
Global warming caused by women who like men who own sports cars??? LOL Great thread!! Be sure to tune in next week when we learn why sports car lovers were responsible for both world wars, AIDS, African famine, Celine Dion's music, Jesus' death, moral erosion and the sudden disappearance of the dinosaurs.
Glenn Beck had a good point about all of this.... Let's say they accomplish their dream of getting rid of oil and cars and all of that. Then what? The economy comes to a grinding halt. Period. Our economy is dependent on transportation, and the usage of that energy, in order to transport goods and services and people. But if they want to start somewhere....they can get rid of all those nasty buses that ride around downtown Cleveland spewing black smoke out their exhaust with NOBODY IN THEM except a couple of homeless people.
Great news! I just got off the phone with Al Gore, and he said that since we now have conclusive proof that hot women are adding to global warming he is forming a new company that will trade in "hottie credits". This means that if you aren't attracted to hot women you can sell your credits to the unconforming wretches who are, and the world is back in balance. He will not take a salary from this company, but declined comment on stock options.
