Glove box gas strut that actually works?

    Based on the searching I have done, it appears that even a new glove box strut won't hold the door in the up position, even when brand new. This is driving me crazy....
    Has anyone found or done anything that would work? Even the same type thing as the radio cover, which stays up fine even though I haven't figured out how?

    I did a few that looked just like a coil over shock on the suspension. A little spring assist seems to hold up for years. Sounds like a job for Verell.

    Replaced mine with a brand new one about three years ago. I bought two at the time due to all the horror stories, thinking I´d be swapping it out 6 months later. Well, it´s still in there and doing its job fine!

    I purchased a new lift support about a year ago from LiftSupportDepot.com, item number SG437001. It is still working, although I never really go into the glove box . I can't vouch if it will hold up in a high traffic situation but so far so good. Total tax and shipping was about $50.

    So it sounds like that about half the folks parts work when they arrive and hold the box up, and the other's don't (past threads). Guess I might as well throw $50 at it and see (cancel my drinking fund for the weekend, and its a wash...:)). Thanks for the replies about the ones working properly, that gives me hope. :)

    Not having a 348 handy, could someone post a couple of pix so I can see what we're talking about?

    Of course, now that you've got a spare one, everythingn else will fail, but not that strut. ;^)

    It would be nice if there was a source for all the Stabilus/Sachs gas strut technical information, with lengths, end terminals and pressure specs, then one could simply order a similar sized unit with more gas pressure....but that would be too easy! ;)

    Glovebox struts? Damn 348 guys... Us 355 guys can open ours manually, no need for a sissy strut...:D

    :) Give me a few more miles manhandling the steering wheel at low speeds and I won't need it either... :) No power steering pantywaist here... :D:D

    Got my new strut in today, and it does indeed hold the glove box open, but also seems pretty weak, as a pretty light tap on the box will make it fall. I also found the old strut was kind of frozen, and wouldn't pop back out at all when compressed. BUT, after a spray with WD40 and several (20-30) compressions, it seems to be working the way it should now. I didn't put it back in the car, but it was strange that just exercising it seemed to free it up.
