I have a 95 355 and want to install the factory glove box on the carpeted shelve between the seats. It requires small holes drilled in that area. My problem is what is beneath that shelf. Fuel tank is near but not up against it. Any hoses? Velcro strips don't seem to really adhere to the carpet very well. I think the factory may have used rivnuts. Anybody familiar with this part of the car?

Here is a photo showing exactly what is changed in order to install a glovebox. Three brackets are added to the bulkhead to allow for screws to be used to secure the glovebox.

Perfect. So they raised the mounting surface instead of drilling into the floor of the shelve which makes me think there is something just below it and drilling 3 holes would not be wise. Thanks for the picture.

Are you saying that only cars coming from the factory with the glovebox had these tabs or that's an unknown? Or did you add tabs yourself? Thanks

That’s a 1997 Berlinetta it comes like that from factory. That’s the change made to make the glovebox mount. You can not drill into the sheet metal directly.

You could bend up some sheet metal brackets as Elliott pictured and 3m panel bond them to that area.

I never found that glove box useful enough to go through the trouble however.

The other reason outside of the proximity to fuel tank is the height is spaced so the glove box can sit on top of the carpet and the insulation which is about 2 cms thick. So you would need to space it up off the bulkhead anyway.

I wouldn’t want to drill into it.
