glove box repair

My glove box release failed. The small electric motor had burned up. It was no longer available, the motor assembly was no longer available, so I was stuck. What I eventually did was use a 12v solenoid from an aftermarket alarm system. It had different bolt hole spacing than the original solenoid. To fit the new one in, bolt the plate with the catch mechanism in the car, fit a new plate onto this to hold the new solenoid, and then install the new one. Check the wiring and be aware that unlocking is done by the solenoid moving forward, which is unusual.
