    Hi there,
Wondering if anybody can help me with my 1990 TR glove compartment box.
I have tried to open it using the switch (electrics ok) and also by pulling the wire but no success. Won't move. Looks like it's rusted and blocked...
I have just bought the car so any internal pic of the lock or how the wire is supposed to work would be most helpful as I have no idea ...
If it remains locked what are my options? dismantle the whole dash ? Cut some of the rivets?
    Thanks guys

Push the release buttom while trying to pull the door down and she should open. Mine never opens by herself from just pushing the release button..

You have to bang it around a little and then pry it open. If you hear the electrics working when you hit the switch odds are it's just stuck.

I used to have to make a fist and bang on the dash right beside the door to open mine sometimes.

Any suggestions how to open assuming the cable and button (and banging) won't work?

Do you mean it makes no noise at all when you push the release button on the dash???
You've tried the emergency black cable pull under the dash near the speaker grill..stick a finger nail or other non-scarring object into the "top" border (space) and pulled out and down? It pulls down Not up from the bottom just incase you didn't know.
If no luck with that, i'll try to get a picture tonight.

Thanks. No noise at all. With emergency cable, despite no play even if pulled harder, I can hear some minimal spring noise. Any idea why the cable might not work ?
I haven't seen the inside of glove compartment so I am little blind here ..

    Sorry about the sideways pictures.
The hoop fit's into the top slot after the mirror drops down out of the way.
Pulling the emergency hoop and gently prying should open it. Do you have right hand drive or left? Maybe you are pulling the hood release emergency cable???

Thank you all for the pics and assistance. I have left hand drive and also tried with ignition on.
I will give it another try this weekend and tell you if I got lucky..
    Season greetings to all!

Regardless of power you should be able to pull on the release cable in the passenger wheel well and open the glove box. THey do stick so it may need a little persuasion as suggested. Mine is very tight and tough to get to latch as well as open - some distortion in the fiberglass panel(s).

On the power front - do your turn signals, power mirrors, and reverse lights work? If not, check the fuse #24 (Furthest right when viewed from front of car). The glove box release is on this circuit.

Thanks. I did check with a multimeter and even fixed the button stuck from too much pressure from frustrated fingers :)
I am going to try the cable and all tricks suggested before doing anything more radical.

My 87 glove box was erratic, I pulled the switch from the console and used contact cleaner on it. it works flawless after that. Did the same to my power window switches also, made a big difference after that.
