My 86 TR has the glovebox door kind of bent upwards at the edge that meets the top of the dash. I was reading in the manual (at least I think I read this) that this really had an electromagnetic latch that was opened by a button on the console. I guess what has happened is that somebody pulled up on this door too hard and put a bend in it because they didn't use the release button. Mine now opens easily by just pulling on the door itself - maybe it is kind of broken. Does that sound right? I also wondered if anybody else has seen this condition and how they managed to repair it. OK, one more new-owner nutbar question: Why do the keys have that hinge in the key handle? To me, it just makes it fold over when you are trying to unlock the door - and I cannot come up with any good reason this hinge was put there. James
The switch below the the passenger window switch is the switch that opens the glove box. The key must be on for the switch to work. The key folds up so as to not hit the top of your right leg when driving. Hope this helps. Ron
The glovebox door warps in hot sun, thsi probably hapopened to yours........and the folding key is to protect your knee.
