Had trouble finding a replacement strut or gas spring to prop up the glovebox door. Saw a thread where one of our members in Malaysia attached a spring like a coilover setup. It looked like an elegant solution. Being a fan of elegance, I did the same.

Got this spring from a hardware store (Tacoma Screw up here in Washington state), cut it to length so that it was exerting a bit of pressure at full extension, and wound it on. Took a chance on the spring strength, but it worked out. Holds the door open and shut, even when installed upside down :). These little things that are satisfying to fix. Thanks, Malaysia Ferrari Man!

They just do not last. I purchased a brand new genuine one and got less than one year out of it before it lost pressure.
