Discovery is off!
Very cool to see the simulated gauges on screen, roll, pitch, yaw, alt, speed, etc. I wonder if the data driving those graphics is just a simulated program released by nasa ahead of time or if they are streaming the simulated data realtime.
It's so cool that we can watch live TV from outer space via the Internet. Such a neat shot from the external tank when Discovery separated
A visual of the astronauts going through metal detectors prior to entering the shuttle just cracked me up!
I had the live feed open on AOL and WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT.....right at liftoff, Augustine IM's me and the picture was blocked! Gee, thanks Gus!
NASA examining video of debris spotted during liftoff By Thom Patterson CNN Tuesday, July 26, 2005; Posted: 4:01 p.m. EDT (20:01 GMT) http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/space/07/26/space.shuttle/index.html Not Again!
My dad flew from Ft. Lauderdale to DFW this morning and the pilot told the passengers he was going to take a slight detour to watch the space shuttle take off. He timed it so that they were only about 80 miles away when it launched... my dad travels a hundred thousand miles/yr said it was the coolest thing he's ever seen out of an airplane window.
i was at my house in florida. One night they had a launch and i ran out to the beach to see the most amazing streaming line of fire in the sky. It was so awesome.
Nasa TV is streaming from http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html?skipIntro=1 Right now the astronauts are in a sleep period, so don't expect anything interesting.
It wasn't like the shuttle missions had been that frequent, but once again, the fleet is grounded. I guess bargaining for the lowest bidder has something to do with this one, or more issues with middle management egos? http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20050727/ts_afp/usspaceshuttledebris_050727223131
Gee, I bet this is thrilling news for the astronaut's loved ones. "Houston to Discovery, do you copy, Over." "Read you 5 by 5, Houston, Over" "Uh, just wanted to let you know, Discovery, that even if you aren't incinerated, we've decided to ground the rest of the shuttle fleet until we are 100% sure we a handle on this foam issue. Thought you might want to know. Over and Out."
