Yankees, Damon reach deal Did anyone see this?! I can't understand this, it's blasphamy. It's not like this is the first time they've signed a Red Sock. But this guy is one of the reasons the Yankees didn't win in 2004. Oh man do I hate the Red Sox. I can't believe this, I just can't. He's definetly not worth the 5 years and $52 million either. He doesn't have an arm and without Manny to cut it off for him I don't know how he's going to make it to the infield. I realize he's the best CF on the market, but I'd settle for any minor league player over some big name, especially one that is a Red Sock.
Imagine both Yankee and Red Sox fans aren't going to like this deal. But if you're a Yankee fan you should be use to them paying $$$ for high profile players. The Yankees are either going to be amazing this year, or they'll have another flop of a season. Flop relative to their payroll. I hate the Yankees
heh, flop relative to the payroll, kind of like the last few years? on the business side they have been able to sell out almost every home game because of those big names, but they still haven't won a single world series with half of those names on the team. to make it worst they've traded away or sold any good players they might have had in the minors. sure there have been great red sox players to play for the yankees, but they all have proven themselves during the playoffs. but it's funny how they don't mention guys like "flash" gordon as a former red sock, he's been with the yanks for a few years now and has done nothing but blow the games that we need the most.
Being very VERY close to baseball and its innerworkings my opinion is that the yankees front office is trying to do a few things: 1) Buy the best 2) Not listen to their scouts or trust their farm teams 3) Get butts in the seats to pay the salaries (which they do VERY well)
Even worse for you it's $52 Million for 4 years not 5. Glad to see this "rock star" and his bimbo wife gone. Sox will run every chance they can on him, and next year no sharing the East Title, SOX #1
I love it how baseball teams, are all on a level playing field. When will Milwaukee and Pittsburgh be able to pay 50 million plus, for an above average player ?
He's been told it has to go. No long hair, no beards. Guess the $52MM will take care of any emotional issues. DM
As a Met fan, I naturally despise the Yankees. The Yankees, nor the Mets for that matter, will win the WS this year because you cannot win without quality starting pitching. It is the 1980s' all over again for the Yankees, i.e. big free agent signings but not a real team. As a writer for the New York Post wrote after the loss to the Angels, "The Yankees have become a more expensive version of the Atlanta Braves; they are a collection of high-priced players, not a real team like the team of the late '90s." Big Bird (Randy Johnson) is about 2000 years old and Pedro Martinez isn't far behind. I don't think either teams' starting pitchers scare anybody. Yankee box seats are $110.00/game, which still shocks me.
At least we were able to get rid of Kevin Brown, that guy was killing us. Unfortunately we picked up Johnson which is another Brown, just left handed. That guy is so inconsistent it's not even funny. He's old and needs to retire already so we can get some high round draft picks. Mussina is getting up there too but at least he could perform during the playoffs, unlike some other people. I don't understand how Cashman thinks. Did he realize when he picked up two realitvely no name pitchers, Chacon and Small, they outperformed their multi-million dollar pitching staff? After that realization you'd think he'd go out and look for more young talented starting pitching, instead he goes out and buys an expensive CF. I think Farnsworth was a good pickup, but we'll see how it goes. If the starting rotation stays off the DL then I think they might be alright. I tried to get tickets to the 2003 playoffs when I was in NY, the nosebleed section was going for $200+. It was insane. But I guess all they care about is charging their fans up the ass to keep the payroll high for all of their players. It's starting to get like F1 in some aspects.
The Yankees claim to have lost $80,000,000 last year even with their TV deal and record setting attendence.
Our payroll is going to be lower this year even if we did sign damon. However damon will give us the boost we have needed in leadoff hitter position that we havent had since knoblauch9we havent had a ring sincve then). I think the signing of damon is good, hes the only player I ever respected on last years redsux team. Plus alot of our great players have come from boston: clemens and boggs. The sox seem to be going down the drain this year, losing alot of good players plus theo.
