Well, I never thought I would do it, but a change of jobs has made me think about getting out of drag racing... I am not sure that I will have the time to approach it like I have been in years past, and am now thinking about selling or trading for something I can use part time.

So, if any of you guys are interested, I am seriously thinking about trading for a nice 360 Challenge Car or something.

My car is a brand new, just certified Jet Powered Funny Car... It runs a J60 from a Sabreliner Private Jet, with the addition of an afterburner. Car has very few passes, and goes 5.80's in the quarter at 280 miles per hour. I have about 200k invested in the car, not to mention a complete spare compressor section, combustors and a partial hot end.

It almost makes me sick, thinking about not doing it anymore.

Oh, and for the make money part... A typical day at the races, you get paid $3000 to show up and make two passes. Makes for a pretty good weekend job.

Sounds like fun but 3k seems like it would barely cover consumables, cost of hauling, maintenance, potential parts breaking, time, travel costs... You must love it do do it but I fail to see how it "makes" money versus just covering expenses?

You dont make a ton of money, but it isnt too bad.

Typical expenses are 300 bucks a weekend for fuel... The car requires an oil change maybe once a year. Engines are good for around 5 years with no significant maintenance.

Cost to run is minimal... But anyway, turns out, unless I get a really good offer I am going to keep it. I have the opportunity to go do some racing in Aruba over the winter.
