Wow, too bad for this guy. He'd just bought the car at the Turkey Rod run in Daytona. Was being trailered home and the owner had to swerve out of the way for something in the road and the hitch ball snapped. The truck, trailer and car rolled over into a 65ft ravine.

I want to cry after seeing this. The driver was unhurt thankfully.

Sad... I once swerved to miss a dog on a 2 lane wet road in a Mustang GT....almost did a 360 and rolled it in a ditch, could have been pretty ugly. Always, always hit the deer (or like item) , not the another car or something else if the option is there.

This why we drive our cars rather than trailer them. Trailer queens are the painted whores of the automotive world.

Automobile; from the words Auto (on its on) and Mobile (moveable) i.e., moves on its own.

Well, he bought it down in Daytona and was transporting back to PA. Not so much like it was trailered to the show and back. I probably would have done the same if I bought something like that several states away.

The rule of thumb with motorcycles is if it's small enough to eat, it's small enough to hit.

If that single wheel strap is how you are securing your Porsche, you're likely to have it fly off of the trailer if you hit a pothole.

Seriously, get more straps, and if possible compress the suspension.

My 74 911 had tow hooks under it and I was able to crank it down.

Having towed maybe a dozen different cars(of all types) back and forth across the country dozens of times, I've found the minimum is 4 straps specifically suited for the purpose. Connect both front straps going straight, but keep them loose at first. Connect the two rear straps in an X pattern. Crank them somewhat a little snug. Then crank the front ones tight. Then crank another notch or two on both front straps. This will keep it on the trailer even if it rolls. It will also compress the suspension, keeping the suspension from getting excess wear, and also allowing it to absorb any slack in the straps if they loosen up or stretch.

    OK good for you.

If you read the reason behind the accident it was caused when the driver "changed lanes to avoid some idiots stopped dead"

I am sure when you are driving your cars you always anticipate some idiot stopped dead in the middle of a dark interstate.

Absolutely terrible. :( Glad to hear the driver came out without injuries...I wouldn't have been surprised if you told me he died based on those photos.

It's hard to tell, but is that a fifth wheel towing setup? Those have less tendency to flip over during high winds, but I'm not sure in emergency lane change situations.

That Daytona event is pretty amazing btw...saw in the mid-90s.

I so, so, so badly wanted to go this year. My budget is so completely toast so no extra funds to make the trip, much less buy parts or things I'd like...Turkey Rod Run is going on right now. :(

    Wow... how cool is that?

I'm glad you decided to 'save' the car rather than part it out... good for you...!

    Looking forward to more photos....!

    Thanks!

Because people are flat out lazy, too inexperienced, or too cheap to do it right. My Chevelle has some body filler in a few spots, most notably the driver's side quarter panel. You cannot tell by looking at it but it's pretty obvious using a magnet or tapping on the area that it has a bit of bondo near the taillight (probably a 6" x 3" area). Personally I think you need to cut out any rust and patch it properly (with fresh steel). That's the only real way to do it.

Looking forward to seeing this car of yours as you progress.
