http://www.meziere.com/index.php?pgName=wp336 although my current pump is fine the additional load of the supcharger and the space needed i'll be switching over to an EWP. from summitt it's $365. i'm also replacing the stock fans for these...http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=DER%2D16928&N=4294924500+4294839058+4294838842+400434+115&autoview=sku cooling should no issue now, i just knew this project would open pandoras box ;D
Would love to see pics of the install and any notes/thoughts on how you did it. I think an EWP would be a great upgrade/mod for a 308 and while my rebuilt pump works fine, next time it goes I'd love to go Electric.
i haven't got to the pump just yet as i'm still working on the other end of the car. it would esentialy sit against the radiator on the lower hose and interupt there feeding the coolant back.
I have been thinking about going electric on my Mon for a while. Several guys I know that race use a EWP as well as the mech one, it is also used after the engine is stopped to do a gradual and controlled cool down. Please post when you have it up and runnung
I would think that an electric water pump along with an electric oil pump would be great to have. Pre lube, post lube and cool down. I'm sure it could be done but for what cost? QUOTE EWP as well as the mech one, it is also used after the engine is stopped to do a gradual and controlled cool down.
I've been thinking about a ewp for a few years now, but the one I was going to go for was a Davies Craig http://www.daviescraig.com.au/main/display.asp
i looked a daviescrag and have heard mixed reviews. the meziere units have a good rep and are known t owork under extreme conditions. cost is about the same. you can set it up to run at key on or switch it manually. i haven't decided how to yet. electric oil pump would be neat also but it will be $$$$. by the time i'm done this will be one modified mondial. EWP, supercharger, adjustable cams, double adjustable coilovers, lightened flywheel and at some point EFI.
A lot of guys in the C4 Corvette crowd run the Meziere WP... Never heard a bad thing about them, other than that they're a little more tricky to do in the Vette than an OEM AC/Delco part.
I had a Davies craig Booster water pump on a superkart I had and it worked realy well, i've never heard of the Meziere but it does look good quality from the pic. I'm just modding mine as I go along, hopefully supercharger or turbo to go with the nitrous in a few years, its just a case of finances
Umm, how much current does it draw? 308 2V alternators are only 65A, the QV alternators are only 80A, & the 328 ones 85A.
10A draw. if need be i can always have the alternator rewound. apparently the PO said that was done. should take in the alt and have it checked.
no, i'm still running the stock WP as i haven't gotten around to design a proper block off plate. too many projects going at once. the stock pump doesn't have to be moved. and now with winter here keeping it warm is more of an issue
My 77 308GTB has 2 Meziere electric water pumps mounted in the front "trunk". One 55GPM and one smaller unit for the intercoolers. I also have 3 modern electric fans up front, one big unit on the radiator and one each on the 2 intercooler heat exchangers under the head-lights. There is also a Bosch FI pump which draws more amps than the stock carb pump used to so I installed a Ford single wire high out-put alternator from Summit but don't remember the amp rating. The main reason for the 55 GPM pump was that the supercharger didn't leave room for the stock pump and thermostat but everyone knows the stock pump is marginal. More HP means more heat that the stock pump may not be able to deal with anyway. In the beginning I attempted to control the EWP with the ECU, without a thermostat, but that was unsucsessfull. Most of the time the engine ran too cold. It now runs constantly with a remote Chevy thermostat in the return circuit and that seems to work well.
I have a stock pump and thermostat on mine, but with a larger radiator and it's been fine. not too hot, not too cold, always just right
Yeah, I've had it since July, but i've been so busy with other things i haven't got around to installing it yet. I want to do it right, so I'm designing a new 'water pump' that will replace the stock one but is in reality a block off plate with an idler pulley so the belt arrangement isn't messed up. i will also need to fabricate a shorter aluminum pipe that runs from the center to the rad, i don't want to cut up the stock one. soon, though...only a matter of $$$
Can't wait to see the pics, I will be getting mine done soon, I'm after ab ali radiator at the mo with a twin fan, then the pump will be next
