My wife is a bit of a green freak, so we just started looking into getting solar panels for the home in San Jose. Anyone know of a good / reliable company to do the work? TIA

    we installed solar in 2006.

It's really not worth it from a money savings perspective. The don't work crap in the winter.

I paid about $19k for a 3.5k system. My average electricity usage is about 1000 kw and solar generates roughly 350kw in the summer for us, saving me about $200/per month in the summer. These are rough numbers but from the looks of it my ROI is close to 10 years. Of course at 10 years I will have reduced efficiency as well...

I bought the solar panels when we remodeled the house as pennance for buyer the 348...

I need to check my records on who did it. Have had no problems with the system in almost 2 years.

It took forever to have PG&E to come out and install the new digital meter for "Time of Use" calculations. You also end up changing your electricity usage habits. You DON'T want to use much during peak hours. So now all of our laundry, dishwashers, etc are run at night.

Sucks for our swimming pool though, because I use water solar to heat it but would have to run the pumps during the middle of the day. Catch 22.
