Sitting and looking at my Christmas gift, Novitec spacers. And wondering, now lets suppose that Ferrari is actually sold off to a group of investors, could be a Chinese, Arab consortia or a different car maker that takes over..

So where does that leave us? (sorry if this has been covered before)

Will the new owners be looking to produce as many cars as possible or make the brand even more desirable??

My 2 cents are that the current normally aspirated 458, will become a true classic. This for many reasons.. One of the last "real" Ferrari's, normally aspirated, true race car with true race heritage...

Now it could just be the Christmas red wine talking, but I am hoping that this is the case... Guess we will have to wait and see..

Anyway, hope you all had a merry Christmas and I wish you a happy new year...

    Cheers...:)

PS. the spacers are not a gift from the misses... I wish they were... lied to her and told that santa came by :)

I have not heard that but it is possible. Whoever buys it will look at it as an investment.

So it will most likely not make a difference.

Lamborghini was sold to the VW group and Audi redesigned the motor plus other things. The Aventador is the first Audi designed car and it is better for it. My Audi V10 has a detuned Lamborghini engine in the car and it has been wonderful.

Your 458 Ferrari you will find to be a reliable car and much less expense to service.

I would not worry about it.

Congratulations on the spacers. They will definitely help the looks.

I agree with you the 458 is a grand slam home run for Ferrari. And if we, speaking as car enthusiasts, want to call it a modern classic - thats cool. But it won't become very collectible in the classic sense. Simply too many made. But it could go down and become somewhat iconic like the 308. Time will tell.

Who knows with the new owner of Ferrari. But, yes I think the 458 is one of the all time best cars made. But, as far as collectibility, there has just been too many made. Before I say that how many do they make a year and what will the total be? Also, would be interesting to know how many a year come stateside.

most likely to happen...Ferrari becomes another VW brand. Not so sure that is such a bad thing provided they respect Ferrari as they did Lamborghini.

THAT I would not doubt in the next few years. And would be MUCH better off for it than 'under' Fiat. IMHO.

Lambo is killing it right now because VW gives them the rope they need.

Current plan is not for a sale of Ferrari, but an IPO of 10% of its pre diluted capital (ie 10 new shares to be issued resulting in a total of 110) of the ultimate to be listed ferrari topco, to investors via a placing or a sale. Those proceeds go to Fiat Chrysler. The remaining 100 shares, are in concept, dividended in specie to Fiat Chrysler shareholders who were on the record of shareholders of FC on the record date, pro rata to their FC hiding. Then F topco is listed.

FC makes a minimal amount after costs from the spin off but returns value to its shareholders. So day 1 Ferrari topco will have a diverse collection of shareholders very similar to the investors in FC. The exact form and method of the spin off will be driven by tax, listing requirements etc. If at that point a person/consortium wants to make a takeover offer or partial offer to gain control, that will take time in accordance with the takeover timetable applicable to Ferrari top co's jurisdiction / listing exchange.

If it remains listed post spin off, holders of relevance will broadly be institutions whose only interest is share price and dividend yield. Product mix, volume, brand ethos or perceived value, product quality all irrelevant unless it impacts on dividends or share price.

What will be interesting is how much cash FC leaves in Ferrari, how much debt is pushed down pre spin off, and the various intra group transactions that occur at the monent and how they will change. Whilst at the monent the transfer pricing is a wash in the consolidation, post spin off, Maserati should pay market for its engines, Ferrari should pay market for its suspension, lighting and other tech (Magneti Marrelli) and FC group purchasing will need to be renegotiated and split so Ferrari has its own supply contracts.

Thx.. and yes you are right regarding the statement that there are too many of them for the 458 to become a classic, perhaps over time..:)
