I will be going to the F1 race. Has anyone been there? What should I expect? I will post pics when I return. This will be my 1st F1 and first time in China.

We had that weekend open and also considered going but could find only general admission tickets - airfare is semi-reasonable - going into Nagoya is the best bet. Going to pass in lieu of Proximus Spa 24 Hour.

You need to make sure to have a tourist visa to be able to get into China first. No visa, no entry. It takes few days to get that visa stamp. $75. Contact the closest Chinese Embasy around you. Besides that, China is a lot of funn !!!

Shanghai is a great city for food and nightlife. I'm going there next week for business, and hoping I can make it back for the race. However, heavy work load may prevent me from taking the time off in October.

I seem to recall one of the SoCal guys (maybe Jeffrey?) went last year and had a great time. Try sending him a PM to ask about the details of his trip.

A bunch of us from the NW f-club went the inaugural year. I loved the track. We sat on the main straight right after the pit row exit. Way cool.

Traffic was horrible. We spent as much or more time on our chartered bus then at the track. And, we even had a pass to park close to the track. Thank goodness we didn’t take individual cars. The local f-car person who set everything up for us did a great job. I’d recommend going with someone, or company, who knows the area and the ins/outs.

    Have fun!

The best section to see action is high up in the main grandstand towards T1. From there you can see T1 to T3 as well as the first hairpin and the fast left hand sweeper.

Hotels will be expensive during F1 week, so shop around. Renaissance & Shereton Tai Pin Yan are right next to eachother and are conveniently located in the city towards the direction of the track, which by the way is about 45 minutes without traffic or can be more than 2 hours on race day on the way back to the city. Hotels on Pudong side of Shanghai will take extra 20 minutes to track.

Xin Tien Di is upscale trendy spot with lots of restaurants and bars, but there are tons of them spread through out the city to suit every budget. There are also some very nice upscale restaurants and clubs on the Bund.
