My wife and I are going to be in the Milan are on April 27-30. We are looking to do as much as we can while we are there and one of the stops will be in Maranello for the day. If any of you have advice on the following or know a good travel agency familiar with the area we would very much appreciate it:

    1) Car Museums, attractions, etc in Maranello and are they open on the weekends, etc.

    2) Hotels in Maranello - Looking for a decent mid range place

    3) We want to go see the Last Supper painting in Milan but when I call the number that we have its all in italian and I cannot get thru. I understand this books up quickly and we want to try and get in to see it. Does anyone know the best way to reach there to get a slot

    4) Hotels in Milan - Looking for a decent mid range place

    5) Any advice on the designer outlet stores in Milan? I assume they are open on the weekend as well but is this true

    6) DaVinci Science Museum in Milan - Same as the last supper painting - Whats the best way to reserve tickets / etc

Basically we are clueless on the area but want to do all we can while there. I know many of you have been over there. Any advice you have or contact, etc is greatly appreciated. We understand most things are closed on Monday btu are there restrictions on the activities we listed above on the weekends (Fri-Sun) as that is when we need to pack all of this in. Thanks again!!

    Thanks,
    Robert

    - Google/ Yahoo Search "The Last Supper & Milan"
    - Stayed at the Marriott and used Milan as a base for trips to Torino, Bergamo and Lakes District
    - Rent the smallest vehicle you can. Trust me you'll be glad you did for many reasons. Do not let the rental car company "upgrade" to a larger car. Parking garages have small spaces, the roads around the lakes are about 8 feet wide, and you'll get great gas mileage
    - Milan has more than it's share of petty thieves - be careful and aware but not paranoid

Make sure you reserve your last supper tickets as it is always booked and there is a line to get in you can do the museum and the shopping on the same day as it is very close to the Duomo area and the shops are closeby

It's about 1.5hrs to Maranello(modena nord exit) you can go to the plant area there is a ferrari museum a couple of blocks from the plant a weekday will work fine. Try the cavallino restaurant. For a plant visit you need to be an owner and reserve it thru your dealer

In Milano a car is more of a pain I park it and ride the public transportation or get my cousin to drop me off ;-) your timing is tight you can spend a couple of days doing the musesum/shopping and one extra day to do the maranello/plant area.

    Cheers

I stayed with relatives, so no advice here. Sites, depending on taste.....Cathedral of Milan, 3rd lrgst in world, started in 1300's, amazing inside.

Sforza castle...was almost demolished in 1800's, but saved.

Not sure, but the famous Alfa Romeo factory should be near or in milan. Of course, this is where Enzo began and became notorious.

Church of San Maurizio, paintings from 1400's. I'm sure you,ve heard of the La Scala Opera House.

Lago Di Como is a well known place famous for silk, and pretty scenery. A few miles out of town.

    Buon Divertimento.....

Maranello is a cool place, I stayed at planet hotel, it was very nice and I think it was about 125 euro. Had a corner room 5th floor one side of the balcony looked at the test track the other at the factory. http://www.planethotel.org/

If you want a good deal on hotel in Maranello stay at the Best Western. Very reasonable. The pizza restaurant down stairs is great. Last time we ate dinner with Rory Burne who just happened to be there.(google him if you don't know who he is) The Ferrari Museum is open on weekends and something to definitely check out.

In Milan the fashion district is concentrated in one area so you don't really have to worry about anything but showing up and shopping. Most of what you are looking for can be researched and booked online so it's just a matter of you doing a little work ;) A Frommers will also tell you everything you need to know. Have fun!

I haven't been in Milan for a while, but there is a wonderful pizza shop called Spontini, near Piazza Argentina. Milan also has the world's best automotive bookstore, Libreria 'dell Automobile. The Biscaretti Museum is in Turin, which isn't far from Milan, and you can visit the Alfa Museum in Arese, a suburb of Milan. I would suggest making appointments at the museums.

I stay at the Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milano. Whether or not you do, it is definitely worth a visit for breakfast or dinner. If you haven't seen the Stazione Centrale, I think it's worth a look.

If you have only one meal in Maranello go to Montana's up the street from the factory. It has a great collection of memorobilia. It is the favorite of the race team and drivers and has a great collection donated by them. Cavalino is far more of a tourist place but is worth sticking your head into.

Montana's has a good website BTW.
