I'm going to next weekend's GP in Monaco. To those folks who have been to the race, where are the good spots to watch the race? I have no access to high rise spots. Thanks.

Do you have tickets? Without one, I don't think you're going to see very much. There are chain link fences surrounding the tracks, covered in tarps.

There is a general admission area, on the hill by the palace. Tickets here are cheapest, but I believe you have to be there very early to get a good spot.

The best seats are probably around the swimming pool complex, especially as you can see the pits from there now.

I've been every year since '92, and Dr. Jon is quite right- without a ticket you won't see anything. The cheap, general admission tickets up on the Rocher require staking out a spot well in advance, and you won't see much from up there. Having said all that, it is usually possible to buy good tickets on the street after they're officially sold out, and you can always book a spot in a restaurant adjacent to the circuit- prices vary widely according to view, etc. If you do decide to buy tickets, I'm partial to the K grandstands along the harbor- try to get a high row in a low-numbered K stand (they run from K1-K8)- good view of the largest giant screen from there too.

I had always thought that the grandstand across from the Casino would be a tremendous spot as that sequence of curves always looks exciting. Has anyone ever had a seat there?

I sat there for qualifying one time, and was disappointed. The view isn't nearly as expansive as you might think, but at least now there's a big screen there (but not as giant as the one by the harbor that's visible from the K and M grandstands- and from up on the Rocher of you've got binoculars).

Anywhere opposite a big screen. This is about atmosphere not race watching. I have been to about 10 at Monaco, the night life is the best part IMO.

Have a safe drive. I'm flying to Paris tomorrow night, then on to Nice Wednesday morning, then the helicopter to Monaco about midday. Sitting in K5 this year. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the advice. I did get a ticket - 200/400 Euros for Saturday/Sunday. I'm just not sure where it is as a friend of mine in Nice bought it for me. I'm in Barcelona on my way to Nice.

Although I have been to many other races previously (especially when I was in the pro motorsports business), this is my first time in Monaco so I'm looking forward to the atmosphere.

    Thanks again.

Just got back today. So nice to be back in the area, not had a chance since I moved to the US. Still a shame my parents had to sell the flat in Eze, but staying in Beaulieu wasn't too bad.

I can't believe Schumacher's nerve. I was delighted when we got to the track on Sunday and found he had to start from pit row. Seats were ace - the very penultimate row of Z1, closest to the last corner of the swimming pool complex. Shade for the whole race, and a nice cooling breeze off the harbour.

Took a bunch of pics, but they're on the wife's lifebook and not online yet.

V8 F cars are now as common as 997s, I can report. In fact, I think I spotted more 430s than Porsches.

Beaulieu IS nice- stayed there once years ago before I landed my "annual" hotel room at the Alexandra in MC 10 years or so ago. I was in K5, high row, and had a good view as expected. As for V8 Ferraris, yes, there were more new 430s than I could count, despite the crowds being generally down.

I just got back last night. I got tickets in the swimming pool complex where I can see passing in the chicane.

360s and 430s were indeed all over the place, but I was more surprised to see Gallardos like their Porsched in California. I saw an F40 and Enzo dealing with traffic...

Spent time driving around; Ese is indeed pretty cool.

If I go again in the future, it would be nice to get a group together and charter a boat.

Dr Jon....I couldn't find a reference to Z1. Based on your pics, did you mean T1? Your pics are great and I would love to sit in that area probably in '08. When do tickets go on sale for the upcoming year and what is the appx price for something in this area?

Is this a weekend pass or only race day. I am not sure how the Monaco weekend is organized.....general admission for Thurs and Sat. with a race seat allocation only Sunday?

Sadly, that's only race day. Qualifying tickets range up to about €150, and if you buy tickets for both days you get a free one for Thursday (which is free practice).

It's interesting comparing Monaco and Indy, as we just got back from that race - you get much more access to the drivers, the ticket prices are a fraction of Monaco, but compared to Indy you're closer to the cars as they race, plus there's just something about being there.
