    Hi guys-

I have a scheduled vacation in Florence that falls within the dates of the Monza GP, so we are looking to buy tickets. For those that have done this event, I'm looking for a couple suggestions:

    1. where to sit? - there are lots of different sections available for purchase. Not sure I really want to be on the pit straight because all you see is the cars going straight. but it IS across from the pits and it is covered seating. i was thinking turn 1/2?
    2. Did you buy tickets by themselves, or did you get a package? which was more effective? We're really only looking to go to race day, not practice or qualifying because the people going with us aren't car people.
    3. where to stay?

Ay other suggestions? We're not looking to make the race the center of the trip, just part of it. the rest of the time will be spent in Florence and cinque terra. Milan isn't that far from Modena - is it really worth the trip even if its just for an afternoon with non car people?

    Thanks,
    Matt

There is another thread about travel this year with some good advice. I will try to find and post it up for you.

There are some comments in the Rome thread, but anyhow.

Yes, don't sit on the s/f straight grandstand. All you see is cars zooming by behind catch fences. Pick an interesting turn like Ascari or Parabolica.

I buy my F1 tickets online on a website. I hate packages as they always try to sell you other stuff you don't need at ridiculous prices. Just make sure whoever sells you the ticket delivers to you BEFORE you leave for your trip. Ask for their delivery time/policy.

I'd recommend a hotel in Milan. Anywhere in the vicinity is fine.

Modena just for an afternoon? You're cutting yourself way too short there. But if that's all the time you have, I'd still do it: There is the famous Ferrari monument (exact copy exists in Maranello) and I *believe* by next year they will have their own Ferrari museum. It is under construction now, but should open its doors next year. The duomo is also spectacular and there is a famous hotel where all the drivers stayed (forgot the name). There is also the Stanguellini museum, nice little place for a quick visit.

Just do NOT order the (in-)famous "sausage of Modena". I had that atrocity once and it was probably the worst thing I ever ate. Aside from the fact that it took them like 45 minutes just to cook it.

thank you. As always, good info. I'll do a search as well.

I'm trying to figure out how much of this 10 day trip I want to have revolve around cars. As much as I love racing and my ferrari, I have family in Florence, love italian wine, and love the beach. Trying to balance all of it is a problem...but a good problem to have. :)

Yes sit on a corner. The best corners would be Rettifilo or Roggia sections. That is usually the 2 most common overtaking corners for Monza.

Even if there isn't any overtaking you get to see the cars coming from a distance and slowing down then taking off again.

As with most GP's you get to wonder around so Friday or Saturday practice you might hang around other sections of the track if you want to see an F1 car at full pelt.

When I went I was at Ascari for qualifying and the main straight for the race. I have been to 9 other races since Monza and I have never sat on the main straight again

Ohh I just noticed you only want to go for the day. Not really worth paying for grandstand tickets if you only go for the day(they charge you for 3-4days even if you only attend one, this will vary from track to track, some tracks do have 1 day stand passes).

I'd recommend leaving your non car friends in Milano for the Saturday and you head up to Monza for sat prac3 and qualifying. :D

Leave really early in the morning on the Sunday. As you can imagine it can get abit chaotic with so many tifosi trying to get to the track esp if a Ferrari is on pole like today

    Hi All,

I just got back from my trip to Italy. We stayed in Milan and went to the Practice, Qualifying & Race and had tickets for all 3 days with seats in the Roggia section..........and it was fantastic, the view is probably one of the best and for pictures.

    Regards,

    Marco.

    Don't park in the infield.

Walk to the old banked track, have your photo taken with the track behind you. Between the S at Monaco where they used to go into the water, and the Monza banks, to me the most memorable F1 backdrops of all time.

Walk the track on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday, I am different than most of the other answers. I like the front straight. I like to watch the start, to me the mose exciting moment of the race. I like to watch the pit stops. I also like covered grand stands in case it rains.

And if a Ferrari wins, I really like watching the bedlam on the front straight and that larger than life Cavallino flag.

When I was there, the grandstands had rows, but no isles. So enjoy when someone above is making a bathroom run and taps you on the shoulder to get by. I love Monza.

Just returned from monza. Fantastic trip. I spent four days, attended qualifying, race, football game with Inter Milan, vocal recital at la Scala opera house, spent a day trip in venice. yes it was a whirlwind but absolutely worth every penny. The only thing I regret was not make an informed choice on seating. I sat in Centrale grandstand and should have sat on one of the turns. I guess i will just have to make a return trip.
