My girlfriend & I are headed to San Antonio for a weekend getaway tomorrow & staying at the Valencia on the riverwalk. Anything cool to do or see going on this weekend? Restaurant or club recommendations? She has been to town before (many years ago), but the extent of my experience of the city is limited to a breakfast pitstop at a Denny's on way to South Padre Island in 1986.

    Thanks,
    George

One of my favorite things to check out is the Snake Farm. It's off of I-35 on the feeder; they have the biggest collection of snakes plus some baboons, alligators and longhorns. I definitely think its better than the SA zoo... Afterwards ya'll can check out the Wildlife Ranch Safari...I wouldn't take the Ferrari in there though..as far as clubs go. I like the atmosphere at Polly Esthers...Cheesy but nevertheless fun. Restaruants? Mi Tierra next to the Mercado is pretty good.

Go to the Alamo. Find the plaque on the wall with my name on it. Yes, it's there, I died in the battle.

Just got back last night. Neat city. Didn't make it to Polly Ester's though, so we didn't get to stalk your sister, John. :)

Seriously, stayed at Hotel Valencia (really cool mix of modern & historic design throughout), ate lunch at Citrus, dinner at Las Canarias (nice), desert at Pesca, room service for breakfasts, lunch at Hard Rock (in a hurry to catch a boat tour), & diner at Biga on the Banks (VERY disappointing...a restaurant that is clearly trying WAY too hard to be ultra-edge chic & simply going way overboard. One of those places that the service is so-so, the food decent--but severely over priced, & the marketed reputation of "ohhh...THIS is the place to BE, cause only the 'cool' people come here". I feel that this place is way past its hey-day & just holding on to whatever hoity-toity past reputation it once had. I would not go eat there again.

Overall, a great weekend.....except for the maid that ignored our "Do Not Disturb" sign requesting no room service, and then chewing me out, in Spanish, for asking her why she was in our room. Management aplogized and made up for the intrusion.

Glad you had fun. SA reminds of a little Mexico, since I'm hispanic I feel more at home here than I did in Houston. :)

Anyway, you got here and left before the nasty weather began.

GEEZ!, where was my head at?!? I thought that the only F-car dealers in Texas were Dallas & Houston! They have one in San Antonio? Where? Who owns it (auto group, private individual, etc...)? Good inventory?

Anyway, I mentioned to the GF about maybe hooking up to hang out with anyone from here while we were down there, but she kinda reminded me that this was a weekend JUST for US. No work, no car stuff, etc....

Next trip will be for longer........

Ferrari of San Antonio or Barrett Jaguar/Maserati/Ferrari

Its in the north part of town, southeast corner of I10/1604 Intersection.

Its a neat place, they have not that high end cars, just Ferrari and Maserati, they maybe have 2-4 Ferraris their in a given bases, mostly always sold though....

But the best part of the place is not the shower, but to see whats hiding under the service lot under the canvas...:) Youll at least see 7-10 Ferraris and quite a few Maseratis

Lulu's Jailhouse Cafe. Under the freeway overpass close to the jail. It is really a hoot. The chicken fried steaks are actually so big three people could eat off one of them. They completely cover the platter and they have to bring the side dishes on another plate. They have the worlds largest cinnamon rolls made fresh in their kitchen. It looks the size of a three layer cake.

There is an electric chair in the entry. Fun place to go and really inexpensive....

I understand they may have moved. I will have to check that out..........

Next time you go, check it out. There is a lot to see and do in San Antonio. It would be very hard to see it all in one weekend........

For lunch try Shillo's on the street above Casa Rio on the Riverwalk. German deli with great pastrami and homemade root beer. Grab a drink at the Hyatt bar and listen to dixiland jazz performed by Jim Cullum's Happy Jazz Band. They are good enough to have a weekly PBS radio show. Mi Tierra for mexican breakfast, mmmmmm.
