Trading my 458 Spider and switching to the dark side ...Lamborghini....lol Going to drive the Aventador till my F12 comes in. Any one have any experience with the Aventador or the F12? Thanks!
Aventador Gearbox is utter crap , my friend traded the one he had for two days on his current F12. This being said they are two entirely different cars one is a front engine Berlinetta and the other is a pure sports car.
Let us know your driving impressions. The Avy is a bit too wide for my garage (Spider is barely tolerable and often times I am shimmying out like a contortionist). I know, I know, I need a bigger garage but I have to store my surfboards someplace. I found the rear view to be severely compromised, for this particular model I think a rear camera is mandatory.
Lamborghini dealer brought one to my home to test drive and I couldn't wait to get out of it and give it back. I actually felt like it was a POS and drove stiff and clunky. Thank God for Ferrari. Eric
Let us know what you think.....it is an aggressive looking car but wonder how refined it is compared to your 458.
I've driven my F12 about 2100 miles since getting it late March. It really is a joy to drive. It is mid-engine like Spider, albeit engine in front half of car. I did get rear camera. At legal speeds it is docile. Even in race mode it is fairly quiet in my opinion, compared to my '09 Maser GTS with 599 trans. The F12 is a joy to drive, and I look forward each morning driving it to work. And it is a special joy, driving it from work. Now, if we only had less speed enforcement from the authorities.
Yep The transmission is the same its a single clutch gearbox it ****s horribly, the car is an overpriced tonka toy there is nothing like a Ferrari period. Here is my neighbors next to my 458, and he also has the 458 which he swaps in and out as we only have one spot each but he owns a place in my old building next door. That's a shame to hear - Aventador is so good looking... Anyways your car looks good my man. Love seeing it when we run into each other at BH
I'm sure you'll have a blast. Transmission is the weak link I suppose, but suspension has been softened and improved in MY2013+. That said, it's no comparison in terms of presence or performance. 458 disappears next to an Aventador. Is it a driver's car? Not really. It needs to lose weight. It's also pretty wide when it comes to real world usage. That said, I think it's laughable to call the 458 any more of a driver's car. Hell, laughable to call any modern road car much of a driver's car. They all drive for you anyway. As for it being a "Tonka" car, well, it is made of plastic to some extent... http://stblogs.motortrend.com/files/2011/08/Lamborghini-Aventador-rolling-chassis-1024x640.jpg
Have you actually driven an F12? If not, you may be shocked (and possibly disappointed, depending on what you're looking for). The F12 can outperform the Aventador, but it also gives the feeling of being about 100x softer. The ride is smooth, the gear changes are buttery, steering is easy. It really is a GT in every sense, just happens to be one where you can let loose an awe-inspiring level of performance. I absolutely love the F12, and if I could only have one car that might be it, but I bought a 458 because it's not my primary car, and I felt like the 458 was more fun to drive.
The thing that always strike me when I see an Aventador is how low it is. The top of the roof on an Aventador coupe is about 3 inches lower than the top of the roof on a 458 Italia. That adds to the image. On the other hand, I bought my Italia to drive, not for other people to stare at.
I rode in an Aventador. Great looking car and an awesome sound, but I came away somewhat disappointed. The ride was very firm and felt a bit unsophisticated, and the single-clutch transmission seemed antiquated, as expected. Obviously it's a powerful car, but it didn't feel quite as quick as I was expecting. That said, it was a brief ride with only one acceleration run halfway through third gear. It's certainly a show stopper, though.
I met Mario Andretti a couple months back. Got him to sign the airbox on my 612. He's has a gorgeous, orange Aventador. When asked why the Aventator, he said it was simply the best, most honest drive he could find, having driven everything else out there.
I wonder if her got the Aventador for free and it was marketing? I just can't wrap my brain around his comment unless there was an ulterior motive. JMHO Eric
Thanks everyone for your replies! I will definitely give feed back on the differences between the two cars. I have test driven both F12 & Aventador the Lambo was very Raw and much faster then my 458 (which is expected V12 vs V8) and less refined but that's what I want for a short time. The Lambo trammison was no comparison to the 458. The F12 drove very smooth / comfortable and super fast seems like a all around great IMO!
I love the Aventador and have driven one in high and low speed conditions. I don't understand this nonsense about the clutch being terrible - it was very fast and the "feeling" is adjustable with different modes. I think you will have a lot of fun with one!
I have driven both the F12 and the Aventador (both a neighbors).....the F12 was boring compared to my 458....the Lambo was flat out awesome....I guess it's a subjective thing but if I had to choose it would be the Lambo hands down...
I own a 458 and a Gallardo [soon Huracan] and the 458 does somewhat shift smoother but this whole neck-snapping thing re: Aventadors seems silly to me. I wouldn't let shifting factor into the buying decision at all!
You might be surprised, I could open my Aventador doors completely in my garage even though when I parked it was right up against the wall, but with my Ferrari California I have to angle the car in sideways and even then I can only open the door to the first "notch." Those scissor doors ain't just for show.
