Found these old pictures I took of the Golden Car at the FCA meet in Atlanta. I think it was 1977 or 78. About a year ago Forza ran a color picture of the car taken while it was parked in the same place taken from the same angle as the second picture. In fact there is a guy in the first picture taking the same angle also.

I usually like ugly cars, but this one is as bad as a Pontiac Aztek!

    It's a Drogo bodied 330 GT 2+2. Needless to say it's a one-off.

Looks more like an AMC experiment gone wrong to me :)

I have seen this sad spectacle in a horrendously prepped and god-only-knows-where-it-sat-to-make-it-look-even-more-dull red, many times. A respray back to gold would be *gasp* prettier, let alone befitting it's title. The bumpers are even more angular in person. This car gave Drogo a bad name.

My car is only a few numbers prior to this one. What's interesting to see is what Drogo actually did - the nose is altered from the top of the wheel arches forward (the hood appears stock) and the rear is stock through the rear side windows / top of the rear wheel arch - Drogo did more out back. The entire middle of the body is still PF with the exception of the rocker covers.

Not all period mods were improvements. Kind of reminds me of a pimp-mobile. In the first picture there is a 330 2+2 behind the 'golden car'

    Regards,

    Art S.

AMC built some pretty cool cars.

AMX I was actually built into a running driving prototype by Vignale.
AMX II could have been a really neat production car.
AMX III is a mid engine car and one of them is owned by a collector who has a real 250 GTO in his collection. It is a yellow car and was shown at Pebble Beach this year, not bad for an AMC.

I was thinking more of AMC cars like the Pacer and Gremlin :)

I've always liked that car, kinda reminds me of a Ferrari-based Plymouth Superbird :)

    Thanks for the new pics

The Pacer would have been a really good car if GM hadn't failed in their committment to AMC. It was designed and tooled for the Wankel engine. GM screwed up the program so bad that the Wankel was cancelled, leaving AMC to try to fit the 4.2L I6 under the hood and finally the V8. It left precious little place for humans because half the engine was in the cockpit.

The picture Kerry posted was a scan from Prancing Horse #102 page 17. In this issue a brief history was given on this car in an article on Drogo bodied Ferraris by Marcel Massini. Dave Seibert is actually the photographer.
