There is an F car that looks like a tom meade rebody running around Bridgehampton , saw the owner at a stop light and he told me it was a period Fantuzzi rebody done in the period on a 330 chassis. Didin't seem right to me , he didn't give me the vin number nor did I get a picture . Anyone know of this car ? I will try to get a picture if i see it again, it sounded like a v-12 though

Jeffrey, the body was constructed by Fantuzzi in the mid-1960s but wasn't installed on this car until the late 1970s/early 1980s. Prior to that time, it was on 330 LMB s/n 4381 SA.

Anyway to bring this back on thread, yours truly being as usual guilty of derailing it, here is a photo of one of my favorites: the one used in the Fellini movie Toby dammit, part 3 of the film spirits of the dead.

Photo courtesy of and copyright Fiorenzo Fantuzzi.

I was told recently by Edgardo Mungo (who raced the Breadvan in a hillclimb in Rome in 1965) that this car was driven before and after the movie by an older dignified gentleman in suit and hat, quite slowly through Rome!

    There are other photos in:

    http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make=Ferrari&model=330+LMB&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on

Youtube has the segments of the film as well: just enter Toby dammit, the car is omnipresent in the final thrid of the film.

It was a 330LMB chassis at the time, the car is now on a more common chassis, in Germany, sadly repainted red.

    best regards,

    Marc

This is 330 LMB #4381 SA in 1966-1968 with the goldmetallic Fantuzzi Spider bodywork, photographed at the Modena Aerautodromo. At the time it was owned by the movie company Cromograph S.rl. in Rome. After the turning of Federico Fellini's movie "Stories of Edgar Allan Poe-Spirits of the Dead" the car sat unused for several years in a parking lot in Rome. The original 330 LMB body was then put back on 4381 SA. The gold metallic Fantuzzi Spider body was sold by Massimo Chiappini in Rome to Giulio Dubbini of Padova, who put it on 330 GT 2+2 Chassis #8733 (and fitted with 330 GT engine #5917). The Fantuzzi Spider body on #8733 was repainted red. This car is on the U.S. east coast since 2005. Not in Germany anymore. Chiappini sold 330 LMB #4381 SA with the original Berlinetta Scaglietti body on the 6th July 1982 to Fabrizio Violati's Bellancauto SpA. Via John Collins and David Morrison it ended up with Harry Leventis.

Impressing details Marcel...Harry Leventis was a customer of mine in the '90s when I was organizing track events at Spa & Nüburgring tracks...he came often with a 250 LM, BRM, and so many more.

Oh man! If there's anything I hate it's challenging my pal Marcel. But here's the story: That gold car was offered to me back in the day, with a spare berlinetta body (I could have either or both bodies), and the chassis was definitely 0808, the 330 TR LeMans winner. The car ended up in N.Y. with the coupe body, so I suppose that the gold body could have then been put on a 330LMB. But that seems like such a stretch that I wonder if somewhere along the line "330TR" got translated as "330LMB"? I'd post a pic as was sent to me by my Rome pal Roberto Goldoni, but I lent it to someone (Dave Seibert, I think---where are you Dave?). I never did the deal as the car was tied up in some kind of dispute, as I recall. But I'm sure that this open body, in gold, was on 0808 in early 1965. I invite comments.

The picture of this car in "The Sports and Grand Turismo Cars" says its a 330TR rebody, the second rebody by Fantuzzi on this chassis?? The first was a berlinetta. The only way to learn is to ask questions!!

This subject has come up several times and the different discussions each contain interesting information, with the most recent being in the "Replica" thread. I've created a new thread and tried to merge all of the information into one discussion.

    #4381 at Talacrest
#4725 at the Ultimate Car Collection.

Thats got to be pretty cool.

I will have to buy a Lotto ticket :)

Here's the Italian registration document for 330 LMB #4381 SA with the Italian plates "Roma 697220", see post #69 (above).
As can be seen this car was sold new by SEFAC SpA to Cronograph SpA in Rome for 9'500'000 Italian Lire on the 4th December 1963 ("dichiarazione di vendita autenticata"). The Certificate of Origin was issued on the 25th November 1963. The type is described as "330 LM", the body type as "Coupé". It was REBODIED by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi from Scaglietti Berlinetta into the golden Fantuzzi Spider very early in 1964 and Fantuzzi kept the original LMB body. In 1963 #4381 SA was a factory race car and was shown to the press at Monza on the 4th March 1963, then raced on the 23rd March 1963 at Sebring with Parkes-Bandini (#19, DNF). It then received a rear spoiler and other modifications. 4381 SA in normal Berlinetta Scaglietti configuration ran again on the 15th June 1963 at Le Mans with Noblet-Guichet (#19, DNF). It is chassis type 574 with 2'500 mm wheelbase and engine type 163 LM, engine 330 LM #2, gearbox type 574 #2. It is the first of the 330 LMBs built. On the 16th July 1982 Massimo Chiappini in Rome sold it to Fabrizio Violati's Bellancauto SpA for 4'000'000 Italian Lire. Violati had Fantuzzi re-install the old original Scaglietti Berlinetta bodywork. Once completed Violati showed it in September 1981 in Modena during the legendary "Raid Ferrari D'Epoca" meeting. And before anybody asks the question: Yes, the Certificate of Origin was issued only after the 1963 race season was over and shortly before the car was sold to the first private owner Cronograph.

Thanks for the update Marcel, I did not know it had been sold from Germany to the US.

It would be nice to see it and 2235 -its not quite as pretty sister which I enjoyed doing a story on for Prancing Horse back in 1994- together, perhaps with other Fantuzzi bodied cars, at Cavallino 2009 or more likely 2010 and to get Fiorenzo Fantuzzi to come over: he did come with Adolfo Orsi a few years ago in 2003. He was a little too interested in my date during dinner too but that is how he is, molto Italiano:)

I once lent the VHS tape of Spirits of the Dead to Gerald Roush a few years ago so he could see the car in the final segment but I think he was quite shocked at the decadent nature of the Toby Dammit segment:), but no matter I remember first seeing it as a teenager 30 years ago, late one night and no other movie comes close for me in putting the mystique of the Ferraris of those days on screen...

That segment alone is worth all the other uses of Ferraris in movies put together, with the exception of the racing movies such as the recers and Le Mans.

    best regards,

    Marc

Beautiful design, very sleek, but you can see it is very much a 'spur of the moment' thing: look at how short the doors are! Getting in and out must have been nothing short of a mission.

Marcel, are you 100 % sure the body on 4381SA today is not a replica one made by Fantuzzi in 80's ??
