Is your Mom techno savvy? Her ability to work with a computer and a digital camera should help you out in your purchase. I got my Mom a Polaroid instant because that is about the extent of her ability to comprehend electronics. With that, it took about an hour to teach her how to load the film!

Dont be sold just because of a small price tag, I would say go up in the price range and spend a little $$ and get a good product.

Time out. First question is, will this be your mom's first digital? And if so, then how tech-savvy is she? We just went through this with my parents and bought them a simple digital this summer. After a week they returned it for a film camera, with which they are much more comfortable. So, make sure if you go the digital route that it's something she'll be OK dealing with.
