Okay, I have been doing too much driving lately... worn out my favorite area roads... I need some new ones...

Any suggestions for winding roads suitable for a safe spirited drive? Please! Thanks.

Yes, drive to Hill Country first. :)

I need to explore more, we should start a list of routes. That 2nd segment in the Poker Run last year was good. Also the first half of the 3rd segment.

I need to explore North and North-West of DFW more.

Actually, I almost did that today... I was that desperate... would have but have too much work to do.

Cedar Hill area seems to have some hilly terrain... the highways down there are almost fun (big sweepers... at 120mph it would be fun). But I haven't gone exploring for roads with tighter twisties.

How about around the lakes? West or north of Lake Grapevine? North of Lake Lewisville?

Any big, open, empty parking lots? ;)

Head west of Mineral Wells. Some great elevation changes & some fast straight-a-ways.

Straight-aways? In 15 seconds I'll be doing obscene speeds and be easy to clock. ;)

No, no... I'm looking for curvy roads that require braking and turning and acceleration and cornering... active driving... but nice wide roads with decent visibility... and light to moderate traffic... not empty... not crowded... no adjacent neighborhoods or kids walking along the street.

Elevation changes are good though... as are trees, lakes, hills, or any other credible scenery.

In the winter, Jennie and I ride our bikes at TMS. The road that circles the parking lots is exactly 5 miles. A few stop signs, but the North side is about a 1.5 mile drag strip.

Brian, go out to MSR...keep going on 377...turn left on 281 South....go to Lampasas...and from there south, you have the beginning of the Hill Country. That's where you'll find the twisties.

Yes, I am familiar with the Hill Country, being an ex-Austin-resident. But investing 400 miles of relatively boring driving just to get there and back is hard to justify on a daily basis. I'm looking for some DFW drives a bit closer to home... something to get an hour of fun driving for at most 2 hours of total time invested... or a half hour of fun driving for 50 minutes total invested.

I used to take a back country road to Muster & Saint Jo on my way to the Bar-H Ranch MTB park. This route has lots of twists & turns. I think that is more of what your looking for. A really nice country drive & not far from Dallas area. I'll see if I can map out a route for you.
