So I'm in Vegas for the summer and I want to go out and explore some of the area's mountain roads but don't really know what's good. Does anybody have some recommendations? Other than checking out the Red Rock scenic drive and hitting up Hoover Dam years back I haven't really left The Strip, so I'd look forward to any drive that gets me out of Sin City for a couple of hours.

Hitting up Mt. Charleston has been one of the things I've wanted to do out here for a while, I just wasn't sure which road(s) I should take up there. I'm looking at a map and it seems like I'd take Kyle Canyon Road (157) pretty much all the way...is that right? Are there any twisty side roads I should check out? How about points of interests along the way or near the summit?

Take the 95 N to the Mt. Charlston exit (about 1.5 mile past Durango exit) turn left..:) There is a road just past the first lodge that will take you over to Lee canyon (very twisty) but be carful, it a long way down if you go over....:( When you get to the "T" turn left and go all the way to the top great place to take picutres. When you leave take the Lee road back to the 95 it's down hill long and straight...:D There are also alot of "Rangers" so keep an eye out.

What kind of car do you have?

Thanks for the directions! I'll try to make the drive in the next couple of days and will post some pictures here when I get back. I'll be in my Boxster S.

Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon and Mt. Charleston all have good roads.
