I picked up my 2003 360 spider in late October. With the mild winter, I have been able to drive her regularly but not REALLY enjoy her in my normal driving routes.
Now that the weather has turned, I'd love to take her out somewhere to really open her up and throw her around some twists and turns.

Does anyone know of any good driving roads in the northeastern Illinois area where there are some decent straight-aways, nice turns, and not too many men in blue??

I would love to organize a group to do some enjoyable, wait, what's the term.......oh yeah! "spirited" driving!!

There is a great - open - low traffic - four lane divided highway that is abandoned most every day of the year right here. It was built for access to a humongous steel mill that has long since reduced production. The roads to-from-at are pretty and offer everything that you are inquiring about in abundance.

Thanks for the response, but to clarify, is it 180 that you are referring to? The area with the oval around it? That's probably close to 3 hours from where I live (northern burbs...Lake County). Was hoping to find something closer, but it may make for a nice weekend road trip if we could get a few owners together.

What is the approximate drivable distance on the road you describe?

    Yes, part circled.

Probably 10 + miles total give or take. But the river roads connected are nearly endless.

3 hours from you? Well if you want to drive...

If not then join Autobahn Country Club - I did.

A drive up 59 to Lake Geneva would be memorable albeit not a ton of curves. The Barrington area offers some nice 2 lane roads to explore.

I think I'd rather take the car out west on US 20 and hit the apple river area before Galena, after stockton. A TON of nice windy hilly roads to have a little fun!!!

    Your quite welcome.

Oh yes, the Stradale has a second set of wheels & tires just for Autobahn. It will be experienced there whenever I can / or when time restraints at-least allow. I have full time track cars but to not let the Stradale loose now & again would be a shame in my book.

That car has so much to offer.

Check out HWY 71 by Starved Rock State Park (30 miles SW of Joliet), about 10 miles of some twists/turns/elevations.

Here's a vid of my gransport:

Neighbors take a dim view of fast drivers. Lots of blind corners with no shoulder, hills and the occassional horse to contend with. Also, BHPD typically has little to do.

And sometimes there's more cyclists than cars. Several groups have regular rides through there.

And sometimes there's more deer than cyclists. Not seeing deer would be unusual in the Barrington area.

I've had more close calls with deer (on my bicycle) in the Barrington area than in all other areas combined.

Barrington is a nice place for a slow drive.

Sheridan road thru the northshore suburbs is nice. Sometimes in certain areas, you either get minimal men in blue, and other times they are everywhere.
