As the title says, I'm looking for a good read about Enzo. If you haven't done so, highly recommend subscribing to Magneto magazine. Great writing, pictures and overall fees. The 2nd issue had an article written by Doug Nye about Enzo and it wet my appetite for more. Looking to spend under 100 bucks as this will be a casual read. Image Unavailable, Please Login
As a bonus, the Magneto article had this great picture of Enzo, Gilles and Didier where Enzo laser focused on the companion : ) Image Unavailable, Please Login
True she went off with a certain Alain Delon and he went for actress Veronique Jannot, then he had his summer 1982 career ending crash....he was my favorite driver then, very hard to take his accident... I saw him when he was a judge at the Magny Cours Elf Winfield racing school final late 85 or 86 with Arnoux Jarier...he was there in crutches with Jannot, drove his 2.3 16V Merc for some laps and despite the leg injuries he was sliding the car the exact same way every lap, super precise. Without the Hockenheim crash he would have been the first French world champion...the irony is he had the crash when he crashed into the back of...Prost driving slowly in massive zero visibility rain...here a shot of Prost, Arnoux, Tambay visiting him a few weeks afterwards. Then five years later he had the fatal racing boat crash...
A happier photo: his Zandvoort victory, lap of honor. Anyone doing it helmet off like this nowadays would have a big fine! https://f1i.com/images/309512-one-last-win-tragedy-ensued.html To go back on BOOK topic Enzo really appreciated him, his comittment and his mind, he was certainly one of the brightest and bravest....
When I started to get interested in the topic (as a teenager more than 30 years ago), I have learned a lot about the way how Enzo was thinking by reading his own book, Piloti che Gente, which was new at the time. One of the first of the more expensive books on Ferrari which I bought from my savings as a kid at that age. It deeply impressed me then and I still enjoy looking into it from time to time. The whole style of writing is a bit old fashioned today, and the focus is not on facts about Enzo's own life, but I really felt to me like he's talking to you, because of his personal memories in the book. So not a a book directly about him - but just a thought...
It popped up on Google when I wrote Catherine Bleynie a few hours ago, search engines never cease to amaze and startle...
nothing is even close. Luca put an incredible amount of research into the book. It was more than a labor of love.
No, original photo (and if you have the 1982 photoshop software that's very rare;-)), all these drivers had constant friendly chats and they all came to see Didier in hospital, particularly Prost of course since he was the other car in the accident. Here another photo with Albert Uderzo on the right, designer of Asterix and sometime President of the Ferrari club France, plus a drawing he did for him. Shortly after he published his Enzo book, Mr. Dal Monte spoke at the local Ferrari dealer. His exhaustive research and writing style make it my favorite Enzo book by far. If you have any interest in Ferrari, the man, this book should be at the top of your list. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'd add my endorsement of Mr. Dal Monte's book. He's also very accessible via his website if you have any questions.
He signed and personalized my copy at the Simeone Museum during a presentation about the research and the background on this excellent book. Very approachable and a wealth of knowledge about all things Ferrari. He was especially touching when he described the great man's last days.
Since Mr @Doug Nye paid us a visit earlier today perhaps he could give us an update on his long awaited Enzo Ferrari photobiography.
I absolutely agree that Luca dal Monte's biography of Mr Ferrari is an outstanding piece of work. And I am sure it shall remain so. I take my hat off to him. Our version - when I can finally polish the rough text edges and select the very best and most informative images for the vast selection of photographs we would like to use - should not take much longer now. The delays have been entirely down to me. It's been a lack of confidence/brain capacity problem. Wrestling with GTO/64 hardly helped. Note to self. Must try harder... DCN
