I know you all hate replicas, but since a 250 GTO is kinda hard to come by, would any of you frown if I built one on a 240Z with a V12 out of a Jaguar XJS??

Now that's a real bastard child. Joe Alphabet had a kit at one point to put GTO body on 240Z chassis.

Creature of the Wheel, on the main chat page go down to Northern Calif. and about half way down the page is a converted Z car for sale. All you have to do is put in your V-12. The nice thing about six cyl. cars is that they have the length for the V12. I don't have a problem with your Idea as copying is the most sincere form of flattery. I'm looking for a car myself to install my F-car V-12.

Take a look at the Chicago section-- there is an FChat user named "Chelle" who is working on a RHD Z-based GTO replica with a BMW V-12.

A replica that does not sacrifice an original is preferred in my book. Personally, I would go with the BMW engine rather than Jag.

There is an article by Michael Sheehan in Sportscar Market about reproduction GTOs/TDFs/TRs, etc.

    Good Luck,

    Art S.

Really, it won't be a Ferrari GTO 250 replica. It will be a modified 240Z. With a Jag engine.

A true replica would use a Ferrari chassis, a Ferrari engine.

Jaguars V12 is, a *****cat. Nothing like a ferrari 12, but in a 240Z who knows.

I've personally never been a fan of the Datsun/Fiero replicas, but I actually appreciate a rebodied Ferrari - in this case, say, a 250 GTE rebodied/remanufactured as a GTO. Many dont agree with this, but I think it's well within the norm of Ferrari history for rich guys to strip a Ferrari down to the chassis and rebody it. Isn't that what coachbuilding was all about?

Of course it will never be a real Ferrari, but it should be nice to drive around in :)

I just need to find a nice 240Z somewhere and then dump in a Jag/BMW V12 (of course with carbs :) ), and of course updated brakes, suspension, steering, all that, so it will drive real nice as well :)

It might not be a Ferrari, but it'll have the looks and the proper engine, instead of some fugly fiero with a V6 and a ton of sticker ;)

Why not instead of spending that much money on a replicar, get a 308 or 328 for the exact same amount almost?
