What would be a fair price for a 77 308 GTB? Very good condition, 47,000 miles. Red/black, recent engine out with all service done. Brian
77's GTB's are the best year of the carb'd cars IMO, and command a bit of a premium for a good one, if complete (eg. all the equipment in place). Highest HP/performance, I believe in that year. My sense is upper 30's to low 40's -- although if price is what you are looking for, I am sure you can find anywhere in the 30's for something in need of a bit of work remaining to be done. I may know of a nice one coming up for sale in the Spring...PM me if your find doesnt work out. John
That's what I am asking for my 1977 red/black......#20405. True, not many on the market right now......my interior is like new but paint is bad.......cracked in places....
You don't pull an engine to belt service this model, so that's more of a "dropped valve" or 'thrown timing belt' story you are hearing there.......
Big Tex is right, of course, although there are a few shops that pull the engine while they are at it to "detail" the engine compartment. Not my favorite way to spend an extra $5K, but....
...adjusting those shifting forks alone is enough to make me leave it in, if possible! LOL! They can just detail around it.......
Good luck, man! They are great cars to own and use....1977 is the last of the NON CAT carbed cars, so I agree they are special in that regard.
Well, I am going to restore them one of these days.......LOL! It was caused by repainting the OEM without proper sealants, IMO..it's the old saying in my case: "Too poor to paint, but too proud to whitewash!" As I tell folks all the time "procurement first...restoration second!"....and that's been the case in my three cars. I'm sure I'll regret losing #20405, but you have to keep life's priorities in proper order, and they were really a hedge against my kids educational expense, all along....... More fun than stuffing the money in a matress, for sure!
the guys are giving you an estimate without seeing the car, and its condition. I think for a Staright clean example 35 is not getting a great car...but average at best. (Will need work as you go and start driving) If its a US based car, and a clean title on the VIN (minimum owners on title), and the books and warrenty card come with the car, plus its natural goodies then i would think you will be paying over 40K and closer to high 40s I am agreeing with no rust, no paint on the chairs, original radio, not a 5,000Watt boom box....and of course some good service history behind it, like oil changes, and real services....like the tires(new) the rims and any road rash ? worn out or faded dash and sterring wheel, worn out driver rugs...its all about the details....look carefully not from 10 feet away. They all look good from 10 feet away and on ebay with a fresh coat of wax on the paint.
LOL, patina on an exotic, crap paint if its on a camaro or mustang. If anything the exotic deserves to have perfect paint.
+1! Forza magazine's estimates of current prices didn't reflect a premium for GTBs over GTSs, but I have heard several Ferrari people say that they might be willing to pay more for a good GTB, either because they are rarer or because they just like the "clean line" of the GTB better.
I'd say in general thats true and GTB's are worth more than similar GTS's. Plus a lot more GTB's are disappearing to make rally clones etc. Similar to old 911 coupes and targas.
There aren't many cars where the coupe sells for more than the spider. I can think of one: the MB 300 SL Gullwing, because of the iconic doors lacking on the 300 SL convertible. Any Ferrari examples?
Put the steering wheel on the "right" side and you can get $100k http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/FERRARI/308/Queensland/csn5001683.aspx
