+1. I wanted a UBoat in the worst way, but wasn't sure I'd be comfortable wearing a 52mm watch. It was a significant investment for something I wasn't sure I'd like. I bought a $200 Invicta that was very similar, and learned pretty quickly that I don't want a watch that big.
I have many great (expensive) name brand watches (I actually have a watch addiction)....but years ago when i had little means to purchase a real name brand, I wanted nice looking watches and replicas fit the bill...if asked about my watch (rare) I would always mention it was a fake...but everyone that knew me knew i wasn't spending thousands on a watch while i had a stay at home wife and four kids under the age of 6... ...but damn i felt good with a nice looking watch...self esteem booster for sure when dealin (at that time) with the drudgery of working in the public service...I did not care if it was a fake and was not trying to be some else...I just loved great looking watches...I did not care if they even worked...the least of my concern was how many jewels (if any) it had in its movement... ...a great looking watch (fake or otherwise) has a way to lift the spirits, just as a great piece of art hanging on the wall does, or listening to your favorite song on the radio....what is wrong with that? I think it is arrogant and tasteless for a person of means to look down at a person of limited resources wanting to look their best with a great looking watch. Why should only the wealthy have the option to buy a nice looking watch? ...why should the poor have to settle for a Timex? This forum often brings out the worst in people and an elitist mentality which I find offensive and condescending toward those with less good fortune... F chatters can do better than that. rant over Beev
Cut out the personal slurs please. As far as replicas, this forum does not encourage or support copyright violations and most replicas are unlicensed violations.
Maybe..I don't now how one would know. Perhaps the forum should also discourage the use of generic medications. beev
I think you're being deliberately obtuse. Generic drugs are mostly mfr'd and sold after drug patents have expired, different situation.
Generic medication is different in that it does not carry the same name and packaging as the original. Counterfeit goods, including medication, are another story...
Ok Ok....so maybe I strayed a little off with the drug stuff. Counterfeit items of types are rampant ...clothing, electronics, software, tools, hardware, games ....many of the mainstream department stores are being duped and selling fake crap... ....anything that is good and has demand will be reproduced by someone somewhere....its almost like copyright/patent law is outdated and does not work....the crap is out there eveywhere and it is hard to know what is real and what is not...this is a fraud/customs/law enforcement/government issue. I do not personally think that a fake replica watch will take away any sales of the real thing...any more than buying a 2 carat fake diamond will take a way from a 2 carat real diamond sale....maybe i am just naive...I sure wouldn't give my wife jewelry with fake diamonds (and live to tell about it) As long as the dealers selling the real stuff are above board and guarantee their products as original....like jewellers and watch experts. Fakes only bother me when they are being passed off as the real thing by a retailer or by the wearer of such goods. beev
I suspect 99% of people that buy counterfeit goods do so to pass them off as authentic. There really is no other reason to buy a fake. A person could get the Rolex look for a few hundred dollars if they bought an authentic, albeit lower-end, watch. If the "look" is all that matters, why buy an illegal item just to have a high-end brand label?
Not so fast. I've seen Rolex copies that got past authorized Rolex dealers who had a great deal of experience with the model. One I recall was a lady's 18K that even had an apparently genuine Rolex movement in it. The case and bracelet were also 18K but the weight was off. There are fakes that jump right out at you and then there is another level of counterfeit copies.
Why buy a fake watch? There are plenty of nice watches that have similar design cues that don't infringe on the original. If you have no plans on passing it off as an original, buy the hommage. What Rolex do you want that costs $60k. I honestly cannot think of a modern production Rolex in that price range (unless it is diamond encrusted). I think a Platinum Day-Date II is less than $60k and that is their flagship. I would also like to see personal attacks dropped. No reason to insult one's wife. As for being a serious collector with a PP, Tag, and Wegner, I suggest you observe some of the people's collections here before that makes you high and mighty. Best, dsd
Those are the fakes I want lol! I'll try to find a picture of this watch. It's a solid yellow gold Rolex with a black face. I think the price is actually closer to 30k.
Maybe its not fair to lump Rolex owners to a catagory labled "guys like Nick." First, they are not actual Rolex owners. Second, owning something made by a particular brand does not make a person good or bad, its the way they treat other people that matters. Best regards, Dino
Not a bad looking watch. Why not simply buy a Datejust in either all steel or steel and gold. In all steel or steel and gold they look quite similar to a Day-Date and they are no where near the price of the all gold model. Not to mention you would have a real Rolex rather than a fake. Best regards, Dino
That's a standard 18K YG Day-Date "Presidential" MSRP is maybe $27k. Street is closer to $19k. If you look hard you can get one used for ~$7500. No where near $60k. There are more companies that make hommages to this then there are those that don't. -dsd
DSD, Where can I find that watch for 7,500? What should I be looking out for buying used? And it's got to be this one in full gold. I saw this watch being worn by a woman surprisingly and it has a very powerful look. Find me a good one for 7,500 i'm interested.
Just so you guys know that picture is of a replica. Didn't want you to think I was trying to pawn that image off as the real deal. DSD show me the money
i personally will never own anything replica or fake... i wouldnt even buy my wife implants even if she wanted them... fake is fake.....
My point is guys like him who want one thing - the name Rolex on the watch. He obviously doesn't care for the craftsmanship or quality of the real thing. He just wants the name recognition. While Rolex has its share of people who appreciate the watch for what it is - a fine piece of craftsmanship - it also has its share of Nicks who want the watch for the recognition it will bring them. Nick has given us a little insight into how he treats others as well (see his post #6 in this thread for evidence of that).
A while back I looked into this. How many of you realize that up until recently, Rolex bought it's movement. BTW: It's the same movement that the better fakes use. Having said that, I didn't get one, but sure thought about it for a while, but decided that the watch was too bling bling for me real or fake. Art
