You've made it a bit tougher for the next sincere principal of a UNITED STATES F1 team. Back to annoying drivers on the grid?
I have NO doubt (unfortunately) that we will see PW on the grid again in time. I imagine he will wind up covering IRL or NASCAR or something in the meantime, and I am sure he's angling for a job within Stefan GP or Sauber or something. What will be more interesting is to hear the lame and pathetic excuses from that waste-of-a-perfectly-good-microphone Bob "The Cretin" Varsha has for us. I presume it will be something pathetically thin like placing the blame on the economy, on the lack of budget restrictions, on late notice from the FIA, etc, etc ad nauseum. Varsha will never account for the discrepancy between what we all prophetically knew to be true months ago, and what he assured us of in the lame video he filmed at USF1 HQ. Should someone ever corner the chimp on the issue, he will duck and weave and probably cling to the story that they almost made it, were it not for <insert one of numerous pre-prepared standard excuses here> From Varsha, cretinism is expected. Matchett on the other hand... for shame... for shame, Steve. Et tu, Steve-o? I feel betrayed.
As I said before, when Hobbs appeared or said anything positive, I would start to doubt myself. Hobbs didn't. Varsha and Talk$hit should get their marching orders from Speed.
I'm sure "Team Speed" will say they did it "for the team". Let's face it... since when are Sports reporters REALLY reporters? Yah, none of them knew Pete Rose was gambling or Mark Mcgwire or Barry Bonds were juicing? Yah... right.
This is just unbeilievable! In my life time I would love to at least see the combination of a US driver ( A competitive one! ) and F1! Every half ars attempt like this makes it that much harder for the next guy.
I'm no fan of Peter as an announcer, but I think he busted his butt trying to do for the U.S. what it couldn't do for itself and he is to be cheered for his efforts. If you take an objective look at this whole thing with the new teams it was done as a panic response to a temporary situation, by a man with something to prove and little time to prove it. If cooler heads had prevailed the new teams would not have been asked to make the grid before 2011 and the selection process would have taken longer. Instead, the whole thing was done with a lame duck president, during a short term crises, and no concorde agreement in place. The miracle is that two of the four teams will make the grid. The real problem is that the FIA is a board of indivuals with no accountability.
Noted, but that is the field Mr. Windsor decided to compete on. Did he not recognize any of this? You have to admit there are more circumstances pointing to PW using this for his own good then for the good of the US. I really can't believe he gives a damn what myself, or any F1 fan from the US has to say unless we are willing to fill his pockets. And that is his right.
Check the USF1 Update thread and you will see many comments--including mine--which reveal the real Peter Windsor.
I don't believe Windsor is the big villain here. Or Varsha and Matchett for that matter. I place 99% of the blame on Mosley. Everyone knew PW wasn't qualified to run a team. But Max gave him a place on the grid anyway to further his own corrupt agenda. PW deserves to be laughed at but Max gets the brunt of my anger.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that he's a villain. Just not THE villain. I reserve that for Max. If so many people here alone knew what PW was, Mosley had to have also known. Yet he passed on real teams like Prodrive in favor of USF1.
In the end it falls on Max. As head of the FIA he had a fiduciary duty to do what was best for the sport. In either a pique of spite or just incompetence he allowed (encouraged?) all this to happen.
+ a million As much as I hate PeeWee, it equally pissed me off that Varsha and Matchett were in on the scam trying to sell us this empty shack as a F1 factory. I said it before and say it again: I was the biggest fan of Matchet, loved his book and admired him for hin insights (well mostly). But I can't fathom why he would support this. Next time I bump into Hobbs (he lives about 90 minutes away from me) I will applaud the man for not faltering to the other two spineless droids. As for now I just hope that Speed TV stays its ground and does not give back the reporter job to Wind-sore. PS: It is nice to see that some Euro journos are now happily making fun of Windsor. Cool, I hope his reputation goes down the toilet. Based on the backlash I see here on FChat I think overall Windsor hurt himself with this charade. I'm glad more people see this charlatan for what he is.
Remember at the end of last season, GP tours started advertising that PW would be part of each GP tour -- perhaps you'd have dinner with him or something. I don't recall the specifics. I wonder if that will still happen or if GP tours will distance themselves. Surely someone could call them and find out!
GP Tours Brochure: And for an extra $ 100 you can throw your Martini into Windsor's face. Now there is finally a reason for me to book with them.
I just went to othe website and he appears on the main page in a photo talking to Webber; he appears in the special events of the Canadian GP in a photo. I think the advert you saw was the one for the Canadian GP - I remember that. Carol great idea Andreas! Sunday evening on Speed should be interesting - the Speed Report and Dave DeSpain
I dont get the hate for Windsor and Varsha etc... from all I can tell, Windsor et al, tried to set up an American F-1 Team and it did not happen? I mean its not like he is Madoff or anything? If he wasted $$ and caused some people to move etc... I mean I have to beleive that everybody had to know that a US F1 team is - was always going to be a long difficult road.... why all the hate?
