After 36 days on Hurricane Duty, it is wonderful to experience some sense of normalcy by getting my daily dose of Ferrari Chat. This has been the most incredible experience of my life. In 8 years with the State Police, I never dreamed I would be faced with the extrordinary death and destruction I have seen over the last month. I have been in touch with Dan, since day one, who has kept me informed on everyone's well-being. It has been a surreal experience. During the first week or so(it all runs together), I was on Royal St checking on Franco's place and NYPD was walking the beat. It was remakable to see the support we recieved from around the country. CHP, NMSP, NJSP, NYSP, KSP, GSP, MichSP, LA County SO, NYPD, numerous other local, state and federal agencies. Over 80% of our Department has been on Hurricane Duty since two days before Katrina. The other 20% has been covering the rest of the state. We had 50 Troopers who lost everything except the uniform on their back when the storm hit. Several lost family members. I am happy to see that the FFQC has been rescheduled for this year. It is trully a remarkable gesture that the FFQC decide to raise funds for the NOPD. It is an event that we look forward to all year. I would also propose that the FFQC condsider the Hurricane Katrina Trooper Relief Fund through the Louisiana State Trooper Foundation for a portion of the proceeds. This Fund was set up to assist the 50 displaced Troopers and their families. 100% of the proceeds will benefit only the Troopers directly impacted by the storm. The State Police has enjoyed a tremendous friendship with the Ferrari guys and I would be interested in your comments. I am off to Vandy escorting the Golden Band from Tigerland. Then back to Hurricane duty on Monday. Stay safe, Doug
Doug You are a true hero! The efforts of all the law enforcement organizations, ESPECIALLY the Lousiana ones, have been nothing short of tremendous. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have done for us! Hope to shake your hand in the near future! Class act all the way
Also, do you have a link to any website where people can go ahead and contribute money right now to the Hurricane Katrina Trooper Relief Fund?
Thanks for the kind words. Our Website is www.lsta.com. You will see a link for the Hurricane Katrina Trooper Relief Fund. Stay safe, DC
