St. Barts is a blast of an airport to fly into topped only by the nearby island of Saba

This is where a pilot has to ignore the visual distortion and distraction of the hill and concentrate on minimum airspeed and hitting the numbers. I came close to making a huge undershoot while landing in the mountains on a strip that had a hill the contour of which paralleled the approach and my visuals got really screwed up. I had to add almost full power to make it almost to te end of the strip BUT beyond the stumps in the approach. Spooky.

Talking to some of the pilots for winair they have to go through 100 hours of simulator training plus over 100 landings as a first officer at St. barts or Saba before they get certified by the local aviation authority to truly be able to fly into those airports. The training captain has to have well over 2500 landings to be able to train.
