Driven both the Aventador and Huracan and I can attest it is not mundane in any way, shape or form. Haven't even seen a 650S in person but hopeful to take a lap in it one day. The car overall in terms of looks just doesn't appeal to me but it sure seems others can't rave enough about it.
Some comments in are interesting. I like the 458 as much as the next guy but. "Aventador does not have alot of drama compared to a 458" "650s interior is horrific" Please, for anyone reading those comments and thinking about buying a 458, Aventador or 650S--you better try the cars yourself because you are very likely to come to the exact opposite conclusion as some of the comments above. The good news is you can't go wrong with any of those three cars--however they are very very different.
From what I've seen between here and the McLaren forum, the most interesting thing IMO is that the general sports car enthusiasts with varied collections all seem to rave about the stuff coming out of Woking, while the Ferrari partisans almost universally poo-poo the same.
Can only tell you my impressions, and that of the dealer who was my passenger. Utter non-event which was shocking.
I'm owner of neither the Ferrari or the McLaren and my experience with this type of cars is absolutely minimal (as I'm student from place where supercars are rarity). However my question is as follows: is it rigth to compare 458 Italia (which is already 6 years old) with a 2014 model (as 650S)? At least for me it's understandable that Ferrari might look a bit "outdated" and some of its technologies are not up to date. I would be pleased to hear yours opinion.
I completely agree. The look and image is what makes the aventador. When actually driving it feels heavy, too wide, slow response and drives like an audi should.
As a 12C Spider owner, while not quite up to the 650, lacking stiffer springs, 25HP and other bits and pieces, Mclaren has provided no cost upgrades to the 12C that improved the overall experience while providing better performance, engine management, transmission control as well added DRS...so bottom line the car they shipped in 2012 is very different than the cars they deliver today and perhaps those journalist who could only point to exhaust note, i.e. emotion, might come to a different conclusion. I'm an enthusiast with both. If you mean that the only people who like Ferrari are those who are ignorant about McLaren, then I am at least one exception. The Mac is the one I would sell first if I had to.
Funny, it has the same numberplate like one 650S in his videoclip... Perhaps sponsored by McL? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OMB4TS6sCYo
99% that is a McLaren long term press car. Also worth remembering his more recent previous 'cars lived with' are an FF, a 599, a 575, a GT3 RS 4.0 from memory. He passed on any 458 (in fact any V8 at all from what I can remember of his articles, my knowledge may not be exhaustive) I suspect because he was never too keen on that car - its launch came when he was blackballed by Ferrari and maybe that had an influence on the way he felt? He seems to be a traditionalist too, hence the love of good old mechanical methods to be found in Porsches and the V12 Ferraris he seems to have preferred.
Love it! But, I have to say I love the sound and feel of my 458. Just cruising at low speed w the rpms up in the 458 is an event!
