The blue coupe was restored by Martin Loge. Based on the number of awards it has won I would say it is a very good car. Good to finally see a very nice coupe at an auction.

I hope it sells towards the top of the estimate as I have a euro Ghibli SS coupe I will be selling.

I saw it and it look quite good. Don't know much about Ghibli's, so cannot confirm if was really special and still keep to original standards.

I heard $145,000.00 plus 10%. So $160,000.00. Not bad, headed in the right direction.

Marty has my car at the moment. Was down to bare metal and she's now final primed.

I was hoping a bit higher but that is still not bad for a 4.7 liter.

Hammer price was $147,500.00 plus 10% = $162,250.00. While that may seem like a strong price for plain 4.7, but it is still 1/3rd the value of a comparable Ferrari (Daytona). Maseratis still haven't come into own like Astons and Lamborghinis of that era.

Also I was told that the automatic Ghibli SS at RM did about 125k plus fees +$137,500?

Yep......My guess is the more we see presentable cars like the one sold today at auction the more serious collectors will pay attention to the Ghibli. Just too many shoddy Ghiblis out there IMO.

Which was my point on the other thread about what color to paint a Ghibli Spyder. The more cars that are restored to the same level as Ferraris (in original colors) the more it is going to drive the Maserati market.

BTW it seems that Astons continue to climb at unbelievable rates, while Lamborghinis (350/400) seem to have hit the wall.

It is a good price, but the car is surely not 100%, even thugh it was the best I have recently seen at an auction. I understand the difference betwenn 4.7 and 4.9 will be marginal in the future, the only thing that counts is the grade and prefection of the restoration and authenticy. A 4.7 is not better than a 4.9 in any way, it was more a marketing thing.. So the general rule is: the more good-perfect Ghiblis we see, the beter prices will be there. IF only good cars would come up - but why should collectors sell if they have spend a hefty 150k EUR/US minmum on a full ground up restoration - and add the costs for a base car... So we wil see 200k for really good cars - as the private market already does if people who know do purchase the right thing!

The new owner of the car contacted me 2 days upon the auction and wants to drive the car very soon. He will be surprised about its fast performance for such little engine...:)

Refreshing news that an avid Ferrari collector like Andreas Mohringer finally saw the light and bought a Maserati, although IMHO for that kind of money I would have chosen a competition car and not the "150S Spider".
