This year I was at the Goodwood's Revival of Speed. Different event: Only vintage race cars around the Goodwood circuit. Racers and audience in period correct clothing in September.

Goodwood's Festival of Speed is a hill climb for all types and years of race cars. Regular clothing in June.

Both events are very unique (have been to both) and a must for anybody who loves old race cars. Always lots of Ferraris too. Want to see real 250 GTOs go flat out or a 250 LM or vintage F1? Even touch them in the pits? Chat a word with Phil Hill or Jacky Ickx? This is the place.

PS: I remember trying to take pics of Ferraris in the pits. There was this racer guy constantly getting in my way. It was annoying. Eventually I spotted his name on the suit: Fangio Jr...

anything they showed would be good of course, but I liked how they showed some of the "off" brands, like Matra race cars etc....

Funny how Alan said if he could take one machine home it would be the Honda RC166.....I like his style!

    Hi Mike,
Honda made a number of very interesting road racers in the '60's. IIRC, they had a variety of 2,4,5 and 6 cylinder 250, 350 and 500s. They had a number of successful seasons with them and now, the ones with history, are worth tidy sums. One sold at auction for $300K a while back.

Was a good show. Not much Ferrari content, but lots of other greats. Interesting how they like the Americans, big number of Indy cars and drivers.

When I was a this event a few years back, they had a bunch of muscle cars, Vettes and NASCARs (aside from all the traditional European race cars). A friend of mine who lives near Goodwood has gotten so jaded that he no longer goes to the event: He said something like "it's the same old cars every time", which is probably true if you're local. And that's part of why they invite folks from across the pond as well.

Kinda funny if you think about it: We travel there to see something other than US.

I know some about them.... I love the sound the 250 6cyl makes! They are as beautiful as the MVs of the same time...imo

I was curious if he meant out of all the bikes, or bikes and cars. Alan never raced bikes did he?

The man has done pretty much anything there is in racing so I wouldn't be surprised if he raced bikes as well. The comment about the Honda was probably more in reference to Honda being the celebrated racing brand this year at Goodwood.

As far as Alain goes: To me he is THE MAN. I'd be hardpressed to find somebody more qualified and refined when it comes to vintage racing. Reading his bio is simply mind boggling. A legend.

    Well Mike,
If I came up with a sound file for a Moto Guzzi V8, why would it suprise you that I might find you a Honda 250/6 file? :D

I take it you piston heads heard Renault's F1 V10 playing "We are the Champions!"? Allegedly no synthesizer, but purely programming of the engine.

Well,we have the Go Karting Event in March. It's on a weekend. Or,The Chicago Auto Show. Here we get together and check out the New Ferrari's,Exotics and anything else interesting. Not wasting time at any of the same old, same old lame crapola.

Last year. We went on the First Day and met Mario Andretti. We got lots of Pix and Autographs. He even signed one of my Ferrari Owners Club business cards. Very Cool

I asked about it. Allegedly there was a Ferrari test session during which they used the colored tire. Just for kicks.
