I have a Google voice account. Is there a way to turn off voice mail completely, so *my* voice mail will pickup instead of Google's if there is no answer?
Jason, maybe someone can give you a better an answer, but can you just set the VM on your phone to pickup a number of rings before the GV voice mail?
Do you want to deactivate on your google number or your other phones? If it's the other phones, go to settings/phones and click on deactivate voicemail. You can reactivate it at any time. Hope this helps.
LOL. I'm in I.T. and I still can't find it. Doh. Thank you for the extra effort, perhaps I have a different version or I need new glasses
Yes it is different - the circled red part is the only part I don't have! Too funny. I tried on Mac's and PC's, IE, Mozilla, Chrome... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are you using a virtual number or a real number. Real numbers can have the original carrier handle their messages, or they can be diverted to google voice. Virtual numbers have to go through google voice's voicemail handling. There is no option to undo that. If you have diverted your real number's voicemail to go through google voice, then it can be undone. If you are tinkering with a virtual number, it's not going to bypass google voice and go to your device's or carrier's voicemail. Hit the Edit key, enable Advanced, and set it to Mobile and see if that gives you the options you need. Once google voice understands that the voicemail can be handled by a device/carrier, it should give you the option to use that voicemail handler. The only other thing I can think of is that you have Never Ring enabled (which you get to after clicking on Edit), so it bypasses the phone and goes straight to voicemail?
Maybe I'm not understanding the difference between a virtual or real number. I have a google number assigned to me by google. When the google number is phoned it rings my phone at the office. My phone at the office has it's own voicemail. So when people call the google number that was assigned to me, and it rings my office, if I don't pickup I just want my office phone carrier voicemail to pickup. I changed my phone type in google for the office to "mobile" and it still does not show the option to deactivate voicemail for this phone. I hope this is more clear. I've asked on the google help forums and everyone is giving the same answer "just click the deactivate voicemail link beside the phone you want to deactivate voicemail on" but I can never get that link to show up. Thank you, Jason
