My suggestion is to purchase the DJI Osmo Action 3 or Action 4 instead of a GoPro. Then purchase the suction cup mount to mount on the windshield. The mounts for the GoPro' s work on the DJI cameras. I have had the GoPro and the DJI Action cameras and I am a fan of the DJI.
The Garmin Catalyst is completely awesome and easy to use for idiots like me. Worth it if they go on sale. They have cameras and are easy to mount.
For me it's a pity garmin discontinued their virb 360, with no spare parts (lenses) available anymore... it was 360, and could be cable powered from a 12v socket. Apart from the now irreplaceable lenses it also accepted outside mounting; not sure about the gopro max or garmin catalyst in this respect.
As a old GoPro user that kinda gave up on track videos due to problematic audio (i.e. wind noise), I’d be interested to know if there’s a current action cam (or add-on microphone) that has figured out how to get a good exhaust recording without all the noise. IMO, there are multiple cameras that can provide excellent stabilized video at a reasonable price. But the audio side of the recording, ughh
This is absolutely without question the correct answer- I shoot footage of cars daily and this has replaced GoPro in every scenario
