Quite frankly those reasons are lame. What harm does it do to "broadcast" with a jammer? It's merely revenue minded. My brother got pulled over once for going 3 mph over, we're really keeping the streets safe with these heroics! A radar detector would have made him aware of the speed trap and all would have been well. I rarely speed, but my V1 is on 100% of the time. Peace of mind in the event that it's the end of the month and quotas need to be filled.
Dave, It's always been a cat and mouse game. The mouse never gets a vote on the rules. Nature's laws on predator and prey and constant. Yeah, it pisses me off too.
The laser YES. The signal using laser light, I bet not. Two different things. Could be wrong but I do not think so. Would make a GREAT SCOTUS case though.
The best protection you have is to drive within the law.[/QUOTE] Screw that! Give me my Escort!! VA absolutely sucks for drivers. Just 20 over the limit is a criminal offense punishable by jail! Outrageous!
And you stay? I haven't been to Germany since 1994 but I do remember a whole lot of roadside flashes where ever I drove. Except the Autobahn. Maybe they'd lock me up upon my return?
They might (lock you up) ....... but I doubt it. I have gotten more speeding tickets on the autobahn than I have on city streets or county roads. I LOVE being a foreigner in a foreign land. There is no better existance. NONE.
Living in VA and trying to avoid speeding tickets I finally got back into radar detectors. I did allot of research and reading and the only one that every test reported as undetectable by Spectre (radar detector detector) was the Bel STi driver so that is what I went with. So far it has done what it claims to do. I have mine set with a dark display and I have been in traffic directly in front of and behind state/local cops in traffic and the voice alert is going nuts over Ka band and the cop showed no interest in me at all. Detection range seems excellent as well. For now during the fall/winter/spring I commute to and from work in the dark so the unit is nearly impossible to see even from a car right next to me. But for the rest of the year, and daily driving, I need to figure out some clever way to hide it. I am thinking of putting it inside of a bean bag style mount for a GPS. It would kill my LIDAR detection but that is a crap shoot anyway. I also like the tissue box idea, or some similar disguise.
Right, MWR. Thats Europe these days- not sure if its good or bad. Like the laws they have at least in Italy regarding even the most common copying of a CD/DVD/liscenced software- dont get caught with a bootleg copy or one can be looking at even some jail for a day or 2 along with maybe a 5-10,000 fine..
I may sell my Hidden radar/ laser Beltronics RX75... I planned to install in my Porsche, never did, still in box. Pm me for details/ price = $600 OBO + shipping More info here [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5an_lzpk1l4[/ame]
From Radar Busters.com "The use of a radar detector in a passenger vehicle is legal in all states with the exception of Virginia, Washington DC. and on military bases. Laser Jammers and Radar Jammers are illegal in the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC" Laser jammers are emitting light, which is not regulated by the FCC, but can be regulated by the states. A radar jammer (transmitter) that is powerful enough to blank a vehicle is actually illegal everywhere in the US, see the link below. Technically the Federal Communications Act of 1934 states that you have the right to recieve any radio transmission that is out there. This was put into the act so that the government could not censor the airwaves, as was being done in some parts of Europe at the time. There is nothing in the act that exempts law enforcemet radars, radios or anything like that. Here is the FCC public notice as to what you can and can't have as far as the Feds are concerned. ftp://ftp.fcc.gov/pub/Bureaus/Mass_Media/Databases/documents_collection/da96-2040.pdf So there is a federal law that says you can have a radar reciever. The state of Virgina can make it a crime to use it, but I don't think they want a court test case. Virginia was warned years ago by the FCC that confiscation of radio receivers (which is all a radar detector is) would subject the Commonwealth to federal charges each time they confiscate a detector, so they stopped doing it. The feds didn't want a case in federal court and the federal law is pretty clear. In some states the law was challenged based on the FCC Act, and some of the states rolled over before it could ever go to court. Virgina and DC are the only holdouts left.
Yeah, that Scorpion jammer by Tiger Lilly really made a fuss! Though, there's nothing that states the traffic revenue department if sending a signal at your car, must get their signal back. You aren't actively jamming it, you are not transmitting anything of any sort, their signal just got lost somewhere... Image Unavailable, Please Login
The best solution might be a foreign plate in a jurisdiction which relies heavily upon speed cameras rather than roadside officers. My plates are in Arabic, so traveling from Amsterdam to Italy after dinner is a pleasure. I shudder to think what the Swiss authorities spend on 'film' for me in a year.
Wow, that IS fugly. It looks like it's supposed to be picked up a roof mounted eye hook or something? Is any of that functional?
Actually you don't need to make something that ugly to substantially reduce your Radar Cross Section (RCS), although what is pictutred will would work quite well to do it. The shaping doesn't have to be quite like that mess, just the right angles and right shaping will do it. It can be incorporated behind the plastic facia of lots of cars, if someone really wanted to, the technology is out there to do it. I spent a lot of years doing RCS reduction work on missiles and aircraft and a properly shaped car can have a low enough return that you can beat most radar. For instance I made a bra for my fourth generation Corvette that reduced the visible radar range from about 1/4 of a mile to less than 300 ft. There were some other things that I did, but the results were pretty amazing. We tested with both x band and K band radars, and it was plenty effective. Most radar operators shoot at you from a long distance, they don't want you to get close enough to see them and start slowing down. They are very used to getting a good lock on you at 1200 to 800 ft, so that's where they shoot from. At 300 ft you are almost on top of the cop car and if you don't see him or your detector doesn't go off before that you deserve the ticket....... I was booking along at near triple digits on one occasion and a cop coming the other way tried to zap me. The V1 rang and I hammered the brakes (radar can't "lock" if your deceleration rate is higher than 3 mph/sec).. He pulled into the median and when I went by he was just looking at his unit with a dumbfounded look on his face. He "knew" he had me, but the radar was just blank.. Another time I did get pulled over and got a "friendy warning" for excessive speed, when he took me back to his car and the display in the radar unit was blank I knew I had beaten him. This cop wanted me to admit to a speed and I wouldn't, finally he just wrote a warning and let me go, but he was PO'd. So actually, radar can be beaten, you just have to want to badly enough to do it.
Who told you about those fines in Germany ? It's just EUR 75,--; 4 points and probably a seized detector. Best Regards from Germany Martin
At 5 times what I recently paid for my "upgraded" Valentine. yes that's a lot. Oh maybe 15-20 years ago I would have still been really interested in one of these in my efforts to foil the LEOs while driving at uber illegal limits on very remote roads but today with where I live it's almost pointless. They've won the war. I just drive about 5 mph slower than the average of the fastest others on the road and all of "that" stress is gone. Congestion is king now. What the other idiot drivers are doing is much more my focus these days. Interesting stuff guys thanks for contributing.
The $500 I paid for the original is lot more money than the $500 is today but then production techniques have improved a lot too. I'm no radio or laser engineer but at a minimum I would think firmware updates should be included in a units capabilities. If the Bell just doesn't leak any RF then at least that part wouldn't needed to be updated. Of course that's what I was told about my Valentine 1 when I originally bought it. So maybe the "upgraded" Valentine unit leaks even worse. I know it works differently than the original unit. I'm not sure it's an improvement either. It just went off all the time on that trip and I had in the proper mode too. I think it's headed for eBay.
3 kph = 1.86 mph Still not much. A few local communities here, are equally stringent, but in Illinois the state police, will usually allow at least 10mph before "cuffing" you. The current laws, in many cases, allow criminal politicians (and friends) to prey and pillage with absolute impunity, while choking the life blood and freedom out of it's citizens. But I digress.....
