No I mean 180 MPH. The wrx is drag limited at 140 mph. It is geared for 180+ mph. With alot more power it may reach 180 mph. Kinda like how the corvette is geared to go 240 mph but is drag limited to 170 mph.
Sorry do not believe you, which WRX. The Australia cops use them and the Commodore v8s go faster and their top speed is only about 140 mph. The WRX is faster accelerating but has a low top speed. I will have a poke around on the internet. Pete
Great. Now name me 2000 production cars that can perform on par with or outperform a stock WRX for that price. Do you get it now ? The WRX is a very economical car that outperforms most cars twice its price !! That's the attraction. For a guy who insists on comparing "apples with apples" you sure have lost sight of the forest for the trees ! Did you watch the video ? That was on a proper F1 racetrack (Sepang, the site of the next GP in 9 days or so). And it was the Ferrari that ended up making the excuses to the Subaru. Excuse me, but I believe I made a very restrained and civil post in this thread. I also thought you could enjoy a legitimate video that related to the topic without rancour and hubris. Sadly, I see that isn't the case.
JDM and USDM wrx's are geared very differently. I believe australia uses JDM gearing. A JDM gear set is actually a common upgrade for wrx's due to their gearing being much lower. I told you a stock wrx's top speed is around 140 mph. Just because it's geared high doesn't mean it will go that fast unless it is modified to have more power.
I'm not sure what the exact "theoretical" top speed would be in fifth gear, but I can tell you that 4th gear goes up to somewhere around 120-125mph (from experience). Both fourth and fifth gears are overdrive gears in the WRX. I believe fifth and sixth gears are both overdriven in the STi. Hope you Ferrari guys don't hate us Rex owners too much for popping in here, but this is an interesting thread. I frankly don't care if I could outdo you in a drag-race or not, I would honestly rather be behind you in a race just to listen to your engines.
Same thing.....they're "all of our cars." We're family, so we each own them. Of course my parents paid for all the cars. So what?? They're all still considered my cars. They're my mother's cars, my father's cars, my cars. The 3 cars are each of our cars. No EVO8, they're your parents. When you leave the house you aren't ever driving them, hell I doubt you have ever driven your father's Porsche anyway. I know sure as hell I get to drive my dad's Turbo once in a blue moon. See its my Mothers 540i, Its my Dad's 930, its my BMW 325. See, your car is the one you drive too school. Now what car do you drive to school in?
I could drive the turbo, but I don't drive the turbo to school for obvious reasons (too expensive, afraid of getting keyed). But when I do get home from school I drive it once in a while when I want to buy dinner or get something from the store. **** man, I've taken the 540i out on mountain pass runs and drive it to buy things everyonce in awhile. Doesn't make it my car. So Once again I ask you what you drive to school. That is your car
Good point, but who cares. It is a road car and performance does not matter. I am one of the few on this site that thinks supercars are stupid, so I also do not see the need for a 4 door family car to pretend to be something other than a grocery getter. If I want to go fast I buy a race car! Now calm down, and read my reply again. I said the Ferrari would be BEATEN and also the Subaru by purpose built race car specials. Road Ferraris and road Subarus are nothing special or fast against purpose built race cars. You may have but then the 400 next posts were about my penis is bigger than yours and wasting this site. In the end NOBODY cares whether your Subaru is faster than my car or somebody elses Ferrari, because (and read this slowly) there is ALWAYS another car faster than yours ... even Schumachers F1 Ferrari! That is what I am trying to say. Thus I do not care if your WRX has 1000hp, it will be blown away one day by something, just like my car will be. Thus I keep all this stupidity for the race track where it is important ... and yes the Subaru (modified) beat a careful, scared driver of a F550 ... again who cares, they were not racing in a racing series just fncking around. The moderator of this site races REAL cars on REAL race circuits and he knows what I mean. That is the only time racing matters, and the only time hp (and torque ) matters ... everything else is just making up for penis size. Pete EDIT: I respect Subaru's and just about all cars, but I do not respect people that have to post that their car is faster than your car bullsh!t. It is a totally pointless discussion that can never be proven without somebody crying foul. Thus yes brag that your Subaru has 300 hp, etc. that is great but do not get upset if many do not care. Remember modified Ferrari can make over 1000hp and again I say so what. Now a racing F550 prepaid by Prodrive now that is something special ... because it was built for something real ... not just his penis is bigger than the next guys. I do not even think much of the originator of this posts topic, as he should realise that he also in his Ferrari is going to get blown away occassionally so should have the maturity to not care ... I'm sure he is a great guy but I stopped with the traffic light GP's when I was about 18!
I'm new to this board (UK resident). I drive a classic Scooby Turbo (what you guys class as the RS?) I'm quite humbled that such prestigeous car owners as yourselves are rating the rice-rocket in such high regards (albeit rather grudgingly!!) Subarus aren't about top speed and build quality They're about point-to-point driving, as quickly as possible. Over here, with exception of the Mitsi Evo, NOTHING comes close for the price. Their heritage IS in WRC, and that is where their fan base comes from. The reason why it's so popular (over here it's achieved "Icon" status), is that, as others have said, is the acceleration and astonishing grip - especially in the wet. It's not perfect, cr@p build (better on the new WRX/STI). Understeers like a bast@rd. Because of the "Japanese" ethos with engines (alloy) alot have been prone to reliability issues, especially when heavily modded. Also, over here, it is the car-thief's pick-of-choice Given the income, I wouldn't have chosen the Scooby. Looking at SuperCar/Prestige marques, well, it has to be the Ferrari But you can't compare say, and Enzo or F50, to an STI or WR1 or Type 25 (different versions over here with even more poke out-of-the box!) Both have heritage - in different backgrounds. As somebody else stated earlier, if I see a Ferrari, I get up behind it and sit there, listening to THAT noise!! I've got a full decat (loud), but my last encounter was an F50. OMFG!!! Lovin just sat behind it. Listening Because of our roads, I think that Ferrari owners are a lot more careful (hilly, bendy, undulating etc) plenty of things to catch a motor out on. So, many drivers I've encountered and spoke to (I'm an adult, not a spotty school kid) are quite reserved, with good reason. So, the point of this post, um, well, to say "Thanks" - makes a refreshing change to come onto a bbs and speak to people who've got a mature, sensible and respectful attitude to other cars. Just bear in mind - you guys are driving what most of us aspire to drive <drools> Well, apart from say a MaClaren F1 Regards, Dan (scoobyDoo555)
Welcome ScoobyDoo555, great attitude. I'm an Alfa Romeo owner and have the same attitude. They are all great cars and we do not need to go around trying to race each other (on the road), but instead enjoy the company on the road. Pete
Just a clarification : that wasn't my car in the video. That was a friend's STi, and I'm uncertain about whether he's stock or modded. Well, I think performance does matter to anyone who would buy a road going Ferrari, there are more luxurious (but slower) cars that one could buy for the same money. At the core, whether we love Ferraris (and I do love Ferraris) or Subarus, we're still performance enthusiasts. There are plenty of road going cars that we could buy but we would go for the ones that give us a thrill when we're behind the wheel. Point taken with a 100 % agreement, but noone was comparing purpose built race cars. I was trying to contribute something to the intent of the thread started by the OP, which was about a road going Ferrari against a road going Subaru. Actually we're in full agreement here. I do not approve of stop light races, roll on races or any other kind of "street racing". I too believe driving fast should be kept to the track. That's why I showed a video of a proper track day, to make a point. I commend and endorse that attitude. I think we're more in agreement than you may think. I was unhappy with the tone of your reply to my post, which I felt was dismissive and condescending. I am a performance enthusiast as much as you are. It's just that I have to live within my means which may not be commensurate with yours, so I got the best car I could comfortably afford. Plus cars here (in Singapore) are around 4 times their value in the US or the UK because of outrageous sales taxes. In the US, I could have bought a new BMW M3 with all the fancy trimmings for the amount I paid for my WRX. Alas, since I live in Singapore, this is all I could afford. If my pockets had the requisite depth I would most certainly have bought a Ferrari (the 550 is one of my personal favorites, actually).
lol pete, i couldn't agree w/ you more. when do we start paying to post?!?!?! my morbid curiosity has made me click on this thread twice and that was twice too many. no one to blame but myself...
Bingo! Streets are dangerous. On the track, the other drivers are paying attention. You can't say that about the streets, anymore. I'm constantly amazed at the kind of rusting klunkers that want to race. What would I have to prove, here? But what bothers me more are the bozos who insist on tailgating in traffic, so they can tell themselves, "I'm as fast as a Ferrari (in gridlock)". Sheesh. That's like telling yourself, "I'd be the fastest human on Earth -- if it weren't for all the other people on the planet". How shaky an ego does it take for that to be any consolation? This is especially annoying, knowing that both the Ferrari and the EVO stop much quicker than the kind of econo-trucks that pull this stunt. The surprise with the EVO is the SVT drivers, who seem to be annoyed that my wing is bigger than theirs. (Hey, it's a sedan -- it needs the wing.) One distinction I've noticed between the Ferrari and the EVO: The plain Lancers never wave back.
As the owner of a F335 Berlinetta (with sports cats but no other mods) and a Impreza WRX Sti7 Prodrive (with Prodrive Performance Pack, Prodrive Springs, Scoobysport straight thro mid-section and back box etc, etc) I've had the chance for a direct comparison. In a straight line: Off the mark the Scoob is quicker (4 wheel drive, 300BHP ish) but the F355 (390BHP ish) isn't far behind. The key bit that makes the difference if when nailing both hard you have to change gear more often in the Scoob and this is when the F335 creeps back up again. In the corners: Scoob will corner on rails (prodrive Springs and full geometry setup means slight oversteer only). The F335 is only really at home in the dry and in the wet and icy conditions in the UK is somewhat of a handful. The rest: In all honesty it's never about which is best. The Scoob is a good all rounder with plenty more mods/grunt to follow and pretty good on servicing. If I only had one car this would be it. The F355 is a luxury good weather cruiser and a back end out, thrash machine with an engine note to die for. Favourite Sunday afternoon activity: clearing a gap and blasting through the underground tunnels - makes me grin every time!! Now just to add a bit of spice: I still get a bigger "buzz" from going out for a blast on fast, countryside roads on the bike....
LOL. Whatever! Look, you're minimal credential around here is fading fast. Just accept that the rest of us are not going to give you credit for owning those cars -- especially when you try and represent yourself as owning your Dad's Porsche. It's certainly not titled in your name. Eos is right. Given the generally older posters on this board than on WRX/Evo/import boards, these people here who are your Dad's age aren't likely to totally believe you if you say the Porsche is yours- because they wouldn't let their kids shoot their mouth off publicly and claim ownership on their cars. And please remove the "see my photos" taglines like the other members have brought up. Put the pictures in your profile, and if we want to see them, we'll click on that. That's the local custom here, and this board doesn't have the clutter and all the huge avatars and quotes and all the other things that waste space you'll see elsewhere. Just be honest and let yourself blend into the community for a while before being controversial and what you say will be taken more seriously. As was said with Andrew Menasce, he is young but respected because he doesn't BS or stretch or claim things that are his Dad's are his, or even that they're held in common. I think most of the fathers would agree that the Ferrari is "theirs" and not "the family's." ________________ On another topic, WRX's are geared for low top speeds (<150mph) like all rally cars... acceleration and handling is more important that top speed in rally and anything over 120mph on dirt/gravel/snow/ice isn't common. Hence the WRC 2.0 liter engine limit - even that small they're plenty strong enough and fast enough for the conditions.
I nominate this as the funniest quote of the thread. Someday, if you actually do learn a few things about cars, you'll share my sense of amusement.
Whats funny is that you guys put forth as much effort into a "Getting beat by a Subaru" thread, as you do on a "Getting beat by a Lambo" thread.
