Nice, don't care for the wheels, however. A nice set of original Fuchs can't be beat.

Congrats, the car looks like fun!

I'm a bit 50/50 on the wheels, but I agree, I think Fuchs would look amazing on this.

    Congrats. Looks great.

Fuchs are the classic choice. (Or BBS basketweaves.) You can still get NOS from dealers, sometimes. Tire availability is becoming an issue, though. The alternative is a set of 17" Fuchs from a variety of aftermarket shops. Depending on how your conversion was done, your offsets may be same as the turbo cars (if you have turbo suspension/running gear) or you might wind up using spacers to fill out the wheel wells.

If that is still running a 2.7 liter motor I wouldn't sink money into it if something breaks....they are hot running motors with some potential issues- the body/car is nice enough that I'd put a 3.0 or 3.2 liter motor into it before spending any money on a 2.7 motor.

Car looks stunning- good luck with her and hopefully you're on rennlist.com as there are many folks with lots of knowledge on porsches over there!

    Andrew,

Still had 2.7L motor, plan to kill 2.7 motor soon :D than eventually upgrade to 3.0L or 3.2L motor in future. Meantime still drive and runs but Slow LOL so I'll just settle for the looks for now. Thank you !

    Couple things...

    1. You need more pics in the picasa folder. ha

    2. Ditch the Chebby wheels.

    Nice car.

sweet car. is it factory or a rebody? steel or fiberglass?

anyway, as to the rims, I think a set of white Fuchs wheels would look killer, or a set of RUF wheels as seen on the yellowbird. (no clue if RUF did those themselves, who their supplier was if not, etc).

(first car in attached images has a mangled front bumper, but you get the idea...)

Ruf wheels were made by Speedline. A set will run up to $4K or so, if minty. I think they were 17x8x10. They look fantastic, but are heavy. You can try contacting Ruf (who has a US center somewhere in TX) to see if they have these in stock. IIRC the new Rufs are not made by Speedline anymore, but I can't recall who they're using.

the RUF shop in Dallas is no longer a RUF-owned place; now called RAC. still a great shop but not carrying RUF parts.

    http://www.racperformance.com/

rennlist/6speedonline/pelican forums might be a potential source for those rims.

I think OZ Racing is the manufacturer of the newer Ruf wheels.

Thanks, still searching for new set of wheels :D

its steel conversion, I had couple of these slant nose in past as this one had a very good work done and interior condition. Just need little work on it :)

BTW order new clutch cable and helper spring, hope I can get it back up running next week. :(

Searching around for cheaper alternative on new wheels, will post as soon I find one.

Thank you everyone and Happy Holidays !

For wheels, if you're looking for a Fuchs-type appearance and can't find a used set, Euromeister makes a 16" cast replica. I've seen them for sale on Pelican Parts and Performance Parts. That's probably the most economical option (other than used). No idea what they cost, but I can't imagine it's more than about $1K per set. Factory turbo sizes were 16x7x8 for early cars, and 16x7x9 later on. But it's hard to find the 245/45/16 tire size for the rears. I think Kumho makes a 265/45 that people have been using lately in its place.

Another option is to go to 17" wheels (for tire availability and aesthetics). Rota make a cast replica. You can buy them on Pelican. That's the most economical 17" option. Maybe $1200 a set? TruDesign and Lindsay are two shops that take original 16" Fuchs centers, cut them out and weld them to new 17" (BBS?) barrels. Custom sizing, but you're using 20-30 year-old centers (maybe only an issue if you're tracking the car) and it's about $2700 or so for a set. Plus the PITA of finding donor wheels. Finally, the bees knees are Zuffenhaus' 17" Fuchs replicas. Everything's new. Forged centers. 3-piece design. Hidden fasteners (on the back). Custom sizing. The centers are proportioned for 17" wheels (unlike Lindsay and TruDesign, where there's a little step between wheel center and the barrel to make up the missing inch). But then you're looking at $4K a set, with unpredictable wait times. HRE once made Fuchs replicas, but not anymore as I think Porsche came down on them and brought an end to that years ago. Still, you may find a set on ebay from time to time.

One other thing is that since Zuffenhaus has come out with their wheel a year or two ago, guys who have purchased those for their 930s have been selling their original Fuchs. So the price for used Fuchs have come down. You can find a decent set of used 7s & 9s in the $1200-$1500 range, though some guy on Rennlist had a set for sale (optimistically priced IMO) at around $4K.

If you have Fuchs (or replicas) that need refinishing or painting and don't want to try that yourself, the two guys with the best reputations are either Harvey Weidman or Al Reed.
