Gary Bobileff called yesterday morning and told me the car passed the smog test! Ohhh yeah! I got my rear in gear, called a friend for a ride, and asap'd it down there! There were still some things needing to be completed, like paying for it, and tuning it again, so I made myself comfortable, or at least as comfortable as I could given my hightened degree of excitement! He has some beauties down there, so I ogled My car, a couple Daytonas, a bunch of Muiras, My car, a couple Boxers including a 365, and My car! Finally about 4:30 all was done and they cut me loose with my new Boxer! I made it out of the shop, around the corner, and straight into rush hour traffic! Twas no way I was going to drive 20 miles home with all those other cars getting waay tooo close to me, so I exited and went to my best friends house, and finally got home about 8PM. Not wanting to make my first run in the car at night, I waited until today, then took my new baby for a good long drive up in the hills. No 7 grand shifts, but a couple at 5 plus, or so, after I was feeling sort of comfortable, and all I can say is that Boxers are fantastic! I think the old heart is still banging tripple time!
Thank you guys again for helping me, cause right now, I'm one really happy guy!
    John

    Hi.........

    Congratulations !!

The Boxer is an awesome adrenaline source !!!!

Remember that you can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds and will be shifting out of third gear at 105 miles per hour at redline.

If you have a metric speedometer, learn the conversions or you will be meeting a number of policepersons soon.

    Enjoy the rocket ship !!

    john,

i remember when mine arrived like it was yesterday. what a moment when it came off the transporter. it was all it could be and more!!! i remember sitting in it and taking in the smell of leather ...then i started it and started laughing!!!!! unforgetable.

i have owned my car long enough to have some major mechanical issues but even after writting a 20k check the last time...i am still as passionate about the car as i used to be the day it first arrived!

there are few cars that move me as the boxer does.

    enjoy your ride tomorrow.

Thanks Pete, and I'm sure I'll be going some where tomorrow!
Have you ever taken your car to the La Mesa doings? I've been there a couple times, and down to El Cajon as well. Lot's of nice cars, and some very cool hotrods too! I've never seen a Ferrari though! A BBi and a BB should get their attention though!

Thanks guys for all the good wishes!
And as for the car, my sentiments exactly. Newer cars might be faster than a Boxer, but your sure going to be sounding a lot better, and IMO, looking way cooler, even if you are going a little slower!

Although even BBi's are great, the Carbs are just special.......

i suspect there are lots of folks that believe that ferraris like rolls and aston, were so exclusive and special due to the nature of the build. they were made by hand...hammered on wood body bucks, assembled by men and while far from perfect, were "ferrari"!

and of course enzo was still alive durring its' production run...i think that is more obvious.

than anything built into '88 are real too. Hey every Ferrari is a real Ferrari because of the history. The 308 is surely a True Ferrari, and the 328 too.

You can't make the armument, IMO, that only 12 cylinder Ferraris are true Ferraris, because Enzo had 4 cylinders running races. He had front and rear engined cars racing.

    Just my $.02

well the above was just a comment based on my suspicions. no mention was made of the cyl count. and the 308/328 was conceived while enzo lived and breathed bit do understand the 308/328 were not by any means a hand made machine and made in some quantity. i own a low low mile gtb qv also...so i say the above w/o malice. the comment of last real ferrari probably comes w/ an exclusivity factor as well. by any standard, a pretty low production run.

    Metamorphisis is good.

If it comes from Modena, and it says Ferrari, it's a real Ferrari. My Boxer is not a F430, its different. Different times, different technology. They are both Ferraris.

I want both. Plus about 10 other models before and after.

Hey, They're all real Ferrari's, but the BB (carb) is the toughest, no frills, get hold of it and drive it, touring car.

It offers just enough comfort to be sufficient, makes a noise to die for, and effortlessly covers ground like few others, and yeah, Enzo made sure if that.

The 308 wasn't hand made? I don't think robots were putting them together. Just because they were made on an assembly line doesn't mean they weren't hand made. Of course they were hand made.

I don't take offense at the comment that a BB is the last of the REAL Ferraris, even though I disagree. I'm just curious why one would say that and what your criteria are for a real Ferrari. A 12 in back? A 12 in general? Carbs? A carbed 12? Just curious that's all.

I'm quite comfortable that my little 308 is a real Ferrari.

I would love a carbed Boxer though, especially if it meant I would at last have a REAL Ferrari!

Well, I'm certainly not going to hijack this thread just because I totally disagree with you. Like what's just been said...if it's from Modena and comes from the Ferrari factory...it's Ferrari. A 308 GT4 is just as much of a Ferrari as a GTO. The 308 GTS was probably one of the best known Ferraris due to TV. Just because technology progressed and the 308s were not hammered like the 50s cars does not make them less of a Ferrari. I would guess Scaglietti didn't hand hammer the Boxers either, but you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to disagree...that's what's great about F-Chat.

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread...I love the Boxer and can't wait to drive one. Congrats on your purchase...pics please.

I think I've mentioned this before, Birdman...you and I think alike. The only Ferrari I ever wanted was a 308...now that I have one, I would love more...but I will NEVER get rid of my QV even if lucky enough to get another Ferrari. While the Boxer is on my wish list, it's not next on the list. I want a front engined 12...365 GTC/4, 250 GTE, 330 GT 2+2...clearly money IS an important factor for me...so a 308 GT4 may be next on my list of REAL Ferraris to purchase. Viva V8s...hey is a 246 a Real Ferrari...it's only 6 cyl. and was not hand hammered by Scaglietti..ok..I'm not gonna keep harping on this. We are all entitled to our opinions. But I'll be watching.....
