Winter finally over in the North-East, so got the baby out of storage. Had forgotten what an amazing car this was to drive - by far the most satysfying/fun car I have ever owned. Remarkably strong/fast considering the size/weight/and relatively modest torque, but the superb gearing and the F1 transmission makes up for it.

Bought the extended warranty for it this year, so now every time I floor it and shift near the redline, I don't have to worry about a $25 K bill potentially!

Hard to imagine what the 599 must be like! (By the way, if any former 550/575 owners have already gotten and driven their 599's I'd love to hear a comparison.

Beautiful car and colour combo Joe - congrats.

    You're in Ontario?

Strange how lighting can affect the blue...in the first picture, actually looks like blu NART, another amazing colour for 550/575.

    Car looks great.

What did you do for storage, drain all liquids or anything like that?

    Modest torque?

What do you consider good torque?

Nice car man! Color combo is great. Its good to see you finally took the 575 out of the garage! :p

Since you were asking how to 599 compares to 575, are you getting one?

    Maximum torque: 588.6 N·m (434 ft·lbf) at 5,250 rpm

While we agree that the 575 is a wonderful machine, I'm suprised you consider 588 Nm modest.

    No Draining.
Fresh gas, fuel stabilizer, pump up tires a little more, roll the car a few inches every few weeks, plugged the exhaust to keep mice etc out, turned the battery off using the disconnect switch. I did start the car a couple of times and let it fully warm up to circulate the fluids and recharge the battery a bit - although many recomend against doing that, I just needed to sit in the car and hear the engine a couple of times to help with withdrawal symptoms.

Car came to life fine each time, but the ECU did get itself confused during one of the restarts after the battery had been disconnected. Cleared OK though.

My other cars are a E55, and a Z06, so it is a tough comparison - however, the 575 "feels" equally strong in each corresponding gear, so I am very happy with how it delivers its torque.

It is actually hard to tell. Depending on the light, they can be confused for either, but I think they are dark blue. (They are lighter than the black dash, but darker than the blue floor mats).

Beautiful car you have there. I was just re-reading the July 2006 articly of the excellent EVO magazine where they pitch the 550 against the 599 (I'm in the market for a 550 myself so this article has my attention regularly). They drove the editor's 550 from England to Maranello concluding it was a deserved Car of The Decade in their 2004 test. After picking up the 599 they could only say that it just blew the 550 out of the water. Quote: "In the end, it was even more one-sided that we had imagined".

Here's a video link of that test: http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/supercarvideos/200484/ferrari_599_gtb.html

It's pretty evident the 599 does not have to try hard to stay on the tail of the 550.

Here's also a link to a review of the 599. Unfortunately the other article can't be found on their website.

575 Joe--a beautiful example, no doubt. And I agree, a great color combo!

Fortunately, in South Texas we are not required to store our toys and can use them year round...but in mid summer, most try to avoid the worst of the daytime heat.

I'd guess the seat inserts are deep, deep blue--my color combo is the same except for these which are the same tan as the interior.

However, the dash itself is a deep deep blue. It looks black unless the light hits it just right, or you put "black against it", then you can see the blue overtone.

The 599 may indeed be more dynamic and technologically superior. But, there'll never be another old school/"analogue", clean line big 12 made by Ferrari (body, speedo/dash and other running gear) so in my opinion the 550/575 will surely become a long lived favorite that still bring smiles to our grand children's mid life faces :).

    Enjoy...

This is from a post I made comparing the Superamerica to the 599.

"I traded my 575M for a Superamerica, which is essentially the same car, albeit improved with the HGTC package and the wonderful glass folding roof. I love the car and enjoy driving it, but the driving dynamics relative to the 599 are very noticably inferior.
In a world without the 599 to compare against, the SA is a wonderful GT. It cruises effortlessly at high speeds and can be very quick when you need it to be. I replaced the so-called Sport Exhaust with an exhaust from X-OST that burbles and pops and splutters, which really makes the 575 SA sound menacing, but the stock exhaust on the 599 is just perfect in its balance of volume and tone. The F1 transmission is the most obvious area where the 599 is clearly a generation advanced from the system in the SA.
I was out in the SA today and when I was walking back to the car after lunch it looked a little dated, kinda slab-sided and not as voluptuous as the 599. I think that the front of the SA is better conceived and realized than the 599 but the rest of the 599 is really beautiful, especially the rear haunches which are modern yet evocative of the 250 SWB.
Having said all of that I'm delighted to have them both and there is honestly not enough money on offer from anyone to make me part with either one."

I loved my 575. It was Pozzi blue with tan interior and navy blue Daytona seat inserts. It was absolutely wonderful for the two years I owned it and I only traded it to get the Superamerica when it became available.

Thanks for sharing that. While I doubt I'll ever have to store a car, it's great to hear how each person likes to do it.
